I was thinking, that maybe there could be certain forums where people who'd like to speak in another language... well, speak in another language!
Maybe it might make foreign newbies comfier.
And you could also be allowed to speak English too in the same forum.
Anyone think it's a good idea?

Is that like Star Trek or something?
If that's the case, you could always make a thread about it...
(Do you actually speek Klingon?
)
If a Klingon-only thread is ever made, could you tell me where can I find a book store that sells "Klingon Limrycs for Dummies"?

"Elite speak only."
It's character representations of natural language. Considered 'childish' in some circles, impressive in others.

Ah. Sorry, I forgot the country of origin for the poster. It's possible that slang is used in America. I'm sorta out of the slang loop...

In response to the original question...consider all--save the Britmaster himself, Noz--the mods/admins are unilingual Americans, that would really be almost impossible to moderate. We'd have little or no idea what you were saying. Plus, it leaves a lot of room for error; not that you guys would, mind you, but say someone who speaks only a different language---say for this instance, portugese---and says something quite rude to another member. How would the admins know? We don't speak portugese. It would just leave the admins far, far too weak I think. Still, there's always Babelfish and sites like that that can provide at least a rudimentary translation. That'll have to suffice for now.

yeah, it would be a bugger to moderate different languages when you don't know it
and as for the 1337 speak, there is a rule of speaking in 1337. mainly two ways of saying it; soft 1337, and hardcore 1337. it's very easy to read soft 1337, but it's almost near impossible to read hardcore 1337 without prior knowledge.
and most 1337 speaks are said with it's own 'accent'.
soft example : h3110
hardcore example : | |<|\|0\/\/ \|0 |3|>0!
| |\
i don't think i can do the hardcore that easily. it's brain noggling just to type it!

Actually, I found a site somewhere (might have the link) with a detailed article/instruciton on speaking 1337 and accroding to that article there are several variants of 1337 including mixes of the "hardcore" and softer variant.
There are a couple of Java and other scripts online to convert (I think that's what Spencer is linking us to), as well as a stand-alone program to do the same.
Basically one of the main reasons for 1337 5p34k is to keep people in the dark.... give the (script) kiddies a feeling of superiority....
Doesn't change the fact it's kinda cool when you can figure it out (but reading too much "hardcore" 1337 gives me a serious headache!).

I thought you spoke Latin...
Well, if you consider a fourth year high school student fluent, then sure I do. But no one besides me would want to have a whole forum in Latin, cool as it would be...ugh, then again, the less fourth declension nouns and perfect past participle verbs, the better! Oh, and no more vocative cases either...dear Lord, these romans were off their rockers with that one. *shudder*

You know, in the background of Microsoft's "Where do you want to go today?" commercial there is a gregor chant going. Losely translated, the one part they repeat goes something like, "The tortured and vanquished are damned to the abyss." It's probably good most MIS majors never took latin.

You know, we'd just need admins that can speak that certain language fluently.
But I see you're all unilingual admins...
Maybe a bilingual registered user can apply for being an admin?

Depending on the language, it could be very difficult to find someone well-qualified to administer who also speaks that language well.
Even assuming that happens, the vast majority of this forum probably doesn't speak it (there are people from all over, English being the only language most of us have in common), so it would likely suffer from underuse.

Don't you mean Je parle francais? You're speaking in the past tense ie. I spoke French. Unless you mean to say you haven't spoken it in a long time.
Malheursement, je n'utilise pas la francais pour un longtemps. Je peux practique, mais je n'ai pas le temps.
