Who's on-line

On the Forum Page, there is a list of members that are on-line. OK so far. Can we get another list that shows who is in the Chat Room. It looks like some people in the Chat are not showing up on the on-line list, and I'd rather not have to log in/out of the chat just to see who's in there.

The Chat keeps a running tally of the people in it right next to the talking window.

As of right now, there is not a way for normal members to see who is chatting without entering. I do not know how easy it would be for Mithrandir to make this list appear on the main page, but he's fairly busy at the moment so don't hold your breath.

I would like to see a list on the main page as well.

I have noticed that if your in the chat for a good length of time you will no longer show up on the online list.

I also feel kinda rude logging in to the chat just to see who's there.

However I understand if he is busy, just voicing my support of such an idea.

On a marginally related note (didn't want to create a whole new thread):

There is a user 'tobago' that appears to be almost permanently on the currently online users list (I haven't seen him not there). Except that he's banned. Why is this so?

It appears to be a bot, so most likely it is not well-written enough to realize that it has been banned and can no longer do anything on the website.

How is it even able to attempt to do something? I thought banned people were banned and refused entry in much the same way that someone who has an incorrect password is refused entry...

It would probably be best not to give specific details about what banned individuals can and cannot do, as that could potentially allow the parameters to be exploited. Suffice it to say that banned individuals can be active enough to be listed (particularly if they have stored cookies that keep them online).

I think it would be a good idea to let registered members to be able to see who's online in chat. ^-^

Actually, our access to the passwords in the database is limited to prevent abuse. I can't, for example, check on your password and use it to log in as you. But for the record, we do have some pretty evil things we can do to trolls. Bots just aren't worth it.

Hey, I notice a new "box" on the login (forum) page that lists Users In Chat. So is this good to go now? Awesome!
