Hacked

We had a bit of a problem last night. Someone gained access to the server and defaced the website (basically, replaced all the index.html and index.php files with a hacker message). Apparently the hacker gained access via an insecure php file on another account. I had to shut down the website for a bit as a result of this.

Thankfully the database was still intact. The hosts also restored all the defaced pages from a backup. The result is that everything works again now.

LOL, that's a British thing, they transpose the day and month. It confused me for a sec too.

yep, the hacking security thing is mentioned even in the PHP manual; you can't protect yourself from same php scripts on the same server. security is only as strong as the weakest link... go read it if you can, it's helpful. and i think that's what happened this time... if it was an insecure php file on the same server.

Whenever I get online I usually go to Anime Angels first before coming here, so I knew nothing about it all day yesterday until I went into AA last night and found we had about 16 new users since that morning. That never happens; the most we usually get is about 1 or 2 a week! Then I read about what happened in someone's intro thread. I think it's awful that it happened, but I'm glad you guys got it figured out. ^_^ (At the same time, though, it was nice to have a little more activity at AA.)

By the way, if anything like this ever happens again, the administrators here do have user accounts at Anime Angels--if I'm not mistaken. (My guess, though, is that they'd prefer e-mail... right, Ashley? )

Yes, most of us have accounts at AA--I know for sure myself, Noz, Gypsy and Shatterheart do. But I rarely get a chance to bebop over there anymore, so yes, email is best. By the way, a few of you did email us and we really appriciate all the support and prayers from this mini-ordeal! Thank you so much everyone. Makes it worth putting this community back on it's feet as fast as possible.
