Yum. (favorite kind of sandwhich)
Bubble Gum Ninja:
Hmmm... I have a lot of anime I like but typically I know I get what I'm looking for with a Hayao Miyazaki. ^_~ So I guess it'd be more like a favorite story teller, ne?
As for manga... Up until this month I had been patronizing Shojo Beat... but they don't seem to have a new issue out yet and I haven't gotten a newsletter in a while so I was wondering if they stopped printing.
It's kinda sad if they did. I have almost all their issues, even the pre-issue.
Baby and Me is one of my favorites as well as Kaze Hikaru and I also like Crimson Hero. I like strong girl leads. I don't typically like Soap Opera stuff or over regurgitated storylines. ^^()

*mouth falls to the ground* O_O YOU LIKE HAYAO MIYAZAKI TOO!!!!!! HE IS THE BOMBDIGGADY!!!! ^^ He has such good stories. I like Howl's Moving Castle the most. Kiki's delivery service second and finally Princess Mononoke.

Yes, unfortunately they're stopping. I think there was a thread around here somewhere, though I forget where...
I loved Crimson Hero, and Miyazaki is just incredible. I love his work. Do you have a favourite from him?

Welcome (back).
We'd prefer people not to have multiple accounts, however. If you plan to use this screen name, we'll disable your other one. Let us know which one you will be keeping.

Hi there Kerri and welcome to CAA \o.o/ Or, welcome back
You can actually get her accounts merged as one and choose which name you want to use ^^
You must be before my time here (2004).. I don't recognize your name (former) 8(
I hope you enjoy your stay here
Have lots of fun and post plenty ^__^ Hope to see you around 8D
Yes, I tend to use lots of emotes.. Just let me know if it bugs you xDDD;

: looks at the news about Shojo Beat and cries:
...the only anime/manga thing for girls around here and they end it abruptly?! WITHOUT WARNING!?
IT SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUX! >^<
As for my old name, I tried to sign in under it but it said that the name didn't exist. (I used all my passwords and I haven't gotten any emails from it)
So it doesn't hurt my feelings if you delete it. I don't remember exactly how long ago it was anyway.
vv() That really does suck though... One of two mangazines that enters my area and it's shutting down...
Well... I guess this makes my collection worth more... I was published in that zine once... ;^; ... I have like... all the stickers and tatoos and everything from those issues... vv()
Easy come easy go...
I will miss the DIY stuff the most though... : is a artsy person:
Ah my Hayao... How do I count the ways?
My favorite would have to be Whispers of the Heart simply because the girl in the lead role IS me. Just in a different country. And with lots of school friends instead of one or two. ...and a boyfriend...
AAAAAnyway...
Um I like just about all of Hayao's stuff simply because he tends to make real girls heriones, not by making them super powerful, but by just the normal means of growing up a little, not too much, but enough. They're humans. I've also noticed none of his female roles ever are "gorgeous" which I also like. Japan particularly tends to veiw school girls and such much like we do barbies. They have a very repetitive standard of traditional beauty. Miyazaki seems to capture what is real more than the ideal. I like that.
Girls with real insecurities. Real problems, not just conflict, but personality issues. Poor Chihiro is a crybaby and a whiner. In Howl's Moving Castle, the only "plain" girl is our heroine, who becomes old and thereby even less pretty (in her opinion. I think she's beautiful.) I also liked that book. I wish Ponyo was coming to theaters near me but alas I live in the middle of nothing special and will have to go more than 200 miles to see it. vv()
I hate living in a cultural wasteland...

Welcome back!
I love Hayao Miyazaki films! Laputa: Castle in The Sky in one of my all time favorites. ^^
I also like Totoro a lot.
(What proves Miyazaki movies are great, is that one of my older brothers, who doesn't really like anime, at all; Loves them!)

Welcome back to the CAA, Miss Kerri. I like the spelling of your name. ^_^

^_^- Thank you. My full name is full of doubles so I think it looks kind of weird. Like my parents wanted a baby doll instead of a child. vv()
Totoro was my second Miyazaki film. I loved it upon finding out about the two sisters. Satsuki and Mei remind me of me and my twin siblings (one boy one girl).
Anyway... do people not use the chatroom anymore? I've been sitting in there but I guess it's no longer a popular hang out. If it's not, is there somewhere else people hang out?
I just like the idea of talking to people with similar interests as I have to always subject myself to silence because people here look at you funny if you say you enjoy the things I enjoy. vv()

Actually, Miyazaki didn't direct Whisper of the Heart-- but he did write the screenplay XD I'd like to read the original manga because I really enjoyed that movie.
Nice to meet you.

I agree with what you say Kerri. That Hayao-sama makes normal woman into heroines. I think he makes just fantastic stories that move my heart. I'm getting a little mushy I know but I love his works. I like Whispers of the Heart to but I have not seen the whole film. Only about 3/4's of it. Which makes me sad because I have seen all of his other films. ^^ Hope your having a good day Kerri-chan. ^^

Yeah, we use the chatroom. Just some people like to use the forums more. Don't sweat it.

Well, it isn't exactly by his choice. From reading an interview with him long ago it seems he wishes he COULD make his female characters more attractive, but says that the problem with this is that they immediately become sexual objects to most guys. From what I gather he actually seems a bit saddened he has to make his female characters more plain-looking so to speak.
Anyway sorry to crush your thoughts of why Miyazaki doesn't use "gorgeous" women. :p
