I stumbled across this website trough Google doing a repot on religion for school just yesterday, and the thought of a Christian anime website caught my eye. Honestly, I checked out this site with intent to mock, but after reading the reviews I have to say this is a really interesting website. I was really surprised by how fair a lot of the reviews were, since I was expecting a lot of harsh criticism in respect to objective content like violence and sexual situations. I found myself nodding my head along with most of the reviews, and after reading through nearly all of them the only things really that made me shake my head were the accusations of Tokyo Mew Mew of being New Age and the harsh age rating for Dokuro-chan. I'm 13, and I love it. I'll admit some of the violence really is hard to stomach, though. I had a nightmare where Dokuro was chasing after me with her bat and whacked my head off once. But, I digress; I liked the site enough to join the forums, and although I am not a religious person I love anime and I'm interested in broadening my horizons and hearing different viewpoints on some of my favorite series.
I've read the rules and the "Do Not Discuss" titles, so even though ALL those series minus One Piece are in my top-ten list of favorites (Utena, Evangelion, and Gravitation are actually my top three, in that order) I'll abide by the rules and refrain from speaking of them. Just one question, though: how strongly are the DND rules enforced? I've seen people in here with names like "Eva-fanboy" and avatars from these series, and I'm wondering if it's all right for me to use an Utena avatar, or something like that.
Are we allowed to discuss series with potentially offensive material that aren't on the DND list, like Loveless? (Which would be number four on my list of favorite anime, behind Gravi.)

I don't intend to bash, but sorry if I was too critical.
I don't want to be a troll.

The DND rules are there because in the past, discussion of those anime have lead to flame wars and locked threads, and it's just not worth the headache for the mods. You won't get in trouble for just saying "Evangelion," or mentioning you like the series. However, in-depth discussion is prohibited. An Utena avatar wouldn't be against the rules.
Also, are we allowed to debate here?
Theology and politics are not allowed to be debated. If you wish to debate theology, we have a link to Theology Web at the top of the page. If you want to debate politics, um...I don't know, go to a political site somewhere. XD]Are we allowed to discuss series with potentially offensive material that aren't on the DND list, like Loveless? (Which would be number four on my list of favorite anime, behind Gravi.)[/QUOTE]
I think Loveless actually WOULD be on the DND list, because from what I've heard it's a shounen-ai series. As Christians, we strongly object to any anime that promotes homosexuality in a positive light, and I think that the DND list mentions shounen/shoujo-ai series as being DNDs here. Also any hentai series would be DND, for obvious reasons.
Wow, my post sounded moddish, huh? ^^;; I'm not a mod, but I figured I'd go ahead and answer your questions. At any rate, we're certainly glad you decided not to troll, and we hope you'll stick with us, even if we can't see eye-to-eye on a lot of things.

Please understand, Kumagoro, the intent here is not to censor anything or put dampers on anyone's conversation, but there have been problems in the past and the people in charge are understandably tired of dealing with little immature feuds involving others who don't use wisdom when posting their opinions, thoughts and such. This is not meant to be a site that adheres to strict doctrine of what you can talk about but instead a site where people are free to share comments without being blasted by the aforementioned others.

First of all, discussion of One Piece is not banned, but discussion of whether the subtitled or the dubbed version is better is. Second, contra Kaemmerite, one is alowed to state one's political positions and a bit about why they believe that, and one is allowed to carry respectful dialogue concerning theological issues so long as they do not fall along points of dispute between different denominations (thus church organization, eucharistic and baptismal proceedures, Calvinism vs. Arminanism vs. Molinism, etc. are out of bounds). While it is ok to have avatars etc. from do not discuss titles, nobody will really discuss them on the grounds of titles. Similarly, being on the Do Not Discuss list requires either being a topic of frequent debate with passions flaring on both sides, or being so obviously offensive that defending it would be counter-Christian, i.e. hentai films.

Yes. We've had loads of discussions like that XD And they get ugly.
Anyway, welcome to CAA!

Note that PMs are not moderated in the same way that the forums are. So if you think something is going to be in the grey area, you can issue a PM to someone to talk about it. Of course, you will need to get familiar with a bunch of members to know who you want to PM!
Welcome to CAA. An investment of your time here will be worthwhile. A lot of us here are quite whacked, and discussion with whacked people can broaden your horizons.

Thanks for not mocking the site.
Kaemmerite did a very good job (have a cookie!) of summing up the what and the why. We don't discriminate against people of other religions/viewpoints, but historically speaking, it takes a very special type of person to tread softly among the brambles, as it were.
Welcome to the Nuthouse!

Nice to see an Utena/Eva fan, though I do admit both (Utena especially) is iffy (I hate the series. The OVA and manga were ok). Feel free to pm if you need some help! ^_^ Oh and we're not SO uptight, I mean as long as u don't cause a rukus we're like fuzzy bunnies. Check out the goof off section- it's a BLAST!
