Haha, why do you blush!? Can I make you blush by saying that you blush!?

Cause my friend she blushes really easy, one time we sang happy birthday to her, and her face turned as red as a cherry. ^_^

I can't wright down my last name right if I don't spell it out to myself, it's an old and stupid habit.

Few months few days. Same difference. Still, they were good days. ^_^;

I find it ironic that Omega gets so many questions when he has the most comprehensive biography in the first few posts. hehe

First off, thank you Omega for that link I requested earlier. ^__^

Next, I do have a few questions for you on behalf of my friends offline. Is there a such major called Security Engineering and do they offer that as a Master's degree in where you study?

I hope it's ok to ask such questions here since it's kinda related to the major you're studying. Pls bear with my ignorance, I can't recall if you've already explain this major (or not), in the early parts of this thread.

uc pseudonym, I can confirm that you analyzed my part in the "friend" situation correctly.
Little T-chan wrote:You BLUSH??? =D I don't blush. My face gets red after I've run a mile..but I don't blush when something embarrassing happens to me. That is funny~
Yes, I sometimes blush if I am embarrassed. Not always, but sometimes.
Sam*ron wrote:Haha, why do you blush!?
I think someone with a medical background can answer that question appropriately. All I can say is that I blush sometimes out of embarrassment. I should also note that there are times that I am embarrassed while not blushing, and there are times that I blush but I am not embarrassed.
Sam*ron wrote:Can I make you blush by saying that you blush!?
No,.... apparently not.
Sam*ron wrote:Cause my friend she blushes really easy, one time we sang happy birthday to her, and her face turned as red as a cherry. ^_^
Okay, just to clarify, I do not blush or get embarrassed that easily.
Sam*ron wrote:I can't wright down my last name right if I don't spell it out to myself, it's an old and stupid habit.
Just to let you know, in that context, it is supposed to be spelled "write," not "wright."
Mave wrote:I find it ironic that Omega gets so many questions when he has the most comprehensive biography in the first few posts. hehe
I also find it ironic. I did not expect to be asked so many questions. I do not mind answering them, but I must admit I did not expect this.
Mave wrote:First off, thank you Omega for that link I requested earlier. ^__^
No problem, Mave.
Mave wrote:Next, I do have a few questions for you on behalf of my friends offline. Is there a such major called Security Engineering and do they offer that as a Master's degree in where you study?
I have never heard of an academic major of study called, "Security Engineering." Right now in computer engineering, security is an aspect of design, not a complete independent field. Therefore, it is seen as a specialization within the computer engineering field.

Georgia Tech does offer a Master's Degree in Information Security through the College of Computing, which in reality is a specialized Computer Science degree. I should note I am not under that program, and I am under the College of Engineering in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. However, my scholarship is tied with the Georgia Tech Information Security Center (GTISC), which is interdisciplinary and has members from Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and International Affairs.

There are many links in that last paragraph.... If my explanation is unclear, please feel free to ask questions, Mave.

Hey Omega,

Finally found some time to respond to this. Thanks! XD

Let's see what else can I ask you... <.< >.> I'm not sure whether these questions has been asked before:

1) Can you use chopsticks well?

2) Can you cook? If not, who does the cooking for you? If so, what is your specialty dish?

3) Briefly describe a typical day in your life. (Go wild with this one *laughs*)

Do not worry about that. I will let you know if they have been asked, and you will still get an answer.
Mave wrote:1) Can you use chopsticks well?
Actually, you have asked a similar question a few months ago. If you still want a short direct answer after clicking that link, I guess that I do not use chopsticks well under the usual Far East standards.
Mave wrote:2) Can you cook? If not, who does the cooking for you? If so, what is your specialty dish?
Well, I touched on this subject before but not directly.

So, can I cook? Yes, I can, but I rarely cook, and my dishes are extremely simple and small. For example, I would say my specialty dish right now is spaghetti with sauce. Usually, my mother does the cooking in the home.
Mave wrote:3) Briefly describe a typical day in your life. (Go wild with this one *laughs*)
At the time of this post, "typical" means during college when classes are in session.

There is really nothing wild about my typical day. I usually wake up in the morning to my alarm. I make myself look decent and have a small snack for breakfast. I then attend classes during the day. In between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., I usually eat lunch. In the late afternoon and evening, I usually work on my assignments. If there is some time at this point in the day, I would either lift weights or pedal a stationary cycle as part of my routine physical workout. In between 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., I eat dinner. I take a shower at night. Then I continue working on my assignments until I force myself to go to sleep, realizing that I should not stay up all night and early morning.

I check my e-mail and Internet sites such as CAA periodically throughout the day and night at varying times.

Hi Omega and T-chan ^^

Thanks for answering the questions eventhough I kinda repeated some of them! :hits_self:

Alright, I was watching some cop show on TV the other day <--- ok this is kinda rare coz I don't even own a TV. It seems that there is an area called "Omega" somewhere in Georgia. Is that true and do you happen to live anywhere near that area? As you can imagine, when I first saw that on TV, my first thought went straight to you. hehe

This is a very good question, Little T-chan.

I have said before that I tend to not have any specific preferences of certain types of dishes and food. However, with chocolate (and I am specifically referring to chocolate candy like a Hershey's bar), I like a lot, and I do have a preference for dark chocolate over all other types of chocolate. I share my parents' sentiment that milk chocolate has too much sugar (although I like that flavor as well).

I should also clarify that while I like chocolate a lot, it is not the same as the love for chocolate that many women I have met (including my mother) seem to have. While I find this love for chocolate that these women exhibit fascinating, I do not share it.

Ohh...haha I'm the opposite! I adore milk chocolate!! Oh my goodness, have you tried those chocolate oranges?? They're in the shape of an orange and you bang them on a hard surface and when you unwrap them--they're split into little orange pieces and they taste like CHOCOLATE ORANGE?!!?!??! AHH! They are so so good!! XD I think that was run-on sentence...

Is there a different love of chocolate that women have that men don't?? Hmm...maybe..I have so many chocolates at my house right now!!! And right now, I'm eating the new Hershey's Kisses filled with caramel...they are...so yummy.....@.@ <3 Okay, I'm done. Bye bye! *hug*

No, I usually look at my subscribed threads daily if they are updated. Then if I have more time to spare, I will look at the titles of the recently updated threads and see if any interest me.

I usually respond to posts rather than create new threads. Furthermore, when I respond, it is because I believe my response brings some unique input to the thread or further clarification, which implies that I would believe I am pretty knowledgeable in the thread's subject. I do not respond if I am just going to essentially repeat what someone else said, and I usually do not respond with posts just showing that I laughed or frowned at someone's posts.

In other words, my posting behavior is heavily dependent on how much free time I have and on what other members post. The reason I frequently post in this thread is that many members post here content that I will reply to.
Hitokiri wrote:That and your next post will be number 1,200.

I think I might have had a chocolate orange a couple of years ago. However, I am not sure so I cannot really comment on that now.

Yeah, I prefer black chocolate too! XD XD But I'm definitely not crazy about chocolate. I mostly see at it as a great flavor rather than as candy itself.

I share my parents' sentiment that milk chocolate has too much sugar (although I like that flavor as well).

That could be the reason why I can't take most sweet things in general. I can easily tell if something is too sweet for me. If I eat any more than one square piece of chocolate, my throat starts to act funny and I go "bleh". >_<;; So, there's NO way I can sit down and eat a whole box of chocolate by myself.

That is okay. No need to hit yourself over it.

LOL I shouldn't be inducing headaches unnecessarily anyway

Ah I see, OK. ^_^ You know what, Omega could be a pretty good name for a manga character. As it is, I already have one with "Alpha."

Question:
Which is your fav. CAA smilies and why?
I particularly love the :hits_self and :bootout: . The former coz it reflects myself in the hyper and crazy mode while the latter is just funny.

Information about my avatar and signature can be found in the first post of this thread under the "Online Identity" heading. The short answer is he is Gato from the SNK fighting game "Garou: Mark of the Wolves" that was released on the Sega Dreamcast a few years ago and is planned to be re-released on the PS2 in the near future. He will also be in the upcoming release of King of Fighters 2003 on the PS2, though he will not have all of his special moves in that game.

LOL! Oh no...I forgot to mention that my Alpha character is male. It was based on the reference of the alpha male of a wolf pack. But hey, I look forward to meeting "Alpha" in CAA. Any potential candidates so far? LOL (pls feel free to ignore that question if it bothers you)

Hey, also if someone has already asked the question above, I'm sorry. I really hate repeating questions. Am I the only one in this thread that has been doing this so far?

Oh one more question: When your parents married, did they go through the Chinese customary tea ceremony?

I’ve finally read through all of this thread, and I must say that your thoroughness and patience are quite admirable. Not only did you provide a huge amount of information to begin with, but to continually answer so many questions is quite a task, too. Although I haven’t been a member here for very long, it’s apparent that quite a few people here look up to you, and I can understand why.
Now, about some of your comments:

Omega Amen wrote:The truth is that I am just merely hard-working, self-disciplined, and determined to fulfill my responsibilities. I do not consider myself interesting, talented, or extraordinary at all.

While I realize that you have already discussed this with more than one person—and it is certainly not my intent to start an argument—I must say that twenty pages of questions and answers demonstrate very clearly that, whether or not you consider yourself interesting, many other people do. In fact, it probably would be accurate to say that the community here finds you absolutely fascinating. From what I’ve read, I would agree with what others have already said in that you are an interesting and remarkable person, and that to be hard-working, self-disciplined, and determined is as unusual as it is laudable.

Omega Amen wrote:This type of practice arrangement allowed me to have one strength that was respected by everyone: I could express the message of the music and its emotional and spiritual content to the listener. I was not really playing the piano. I was expressing the special message and soul of the music the composer put down on paper. I was also expressing what this message meant to me through my performance. By dwelling on pieces for a long time with hard work and determination, I could know what the music really is and thus project it. I was doing more than just making sounds on a mechanical device, and that is what other musicians (and judges) noticed. If I was really talented, I might not have spent the time to receive, understand, appreciate, and express such messages. In other words, dedication and determination helped me excel.

As a musician, one thing that I have heard over and over again is that it takes more than technical ability to be a good musician. That is, just because someone can play all the right notes in a piece without having to spend much time practicing isn’t enough]I am not sure I would make a good writer. Any plot ideas I came up with tend to fall apart quickly, and when I have written stories, I tend to write so slowly that I considered it unproductive. Regardless, I do not have the time to write stories now. Graduate school keeps you busy.
There is certainly more to writing than plot. For example:

Omega Amen wrote:Some people have myriad thoughts and memories from looking at a family picture. I have a similar experience when thinking of this person's black hair. A feeling of warmth and security can surface in the midst of concern and worry, all indicative of her powerful love. I sometimes see her hair as a veil where behind I sometimes hear gentle laughter or emotionally intense crying. The black color will remind me of dark nights of lullabies, dreams, and nightmares expressed by rhythmic, deep, soft breaths. The bright sheen from a sudden sway of her hair reminds me of her energy, mischief, and command and my commitment to her well-being and happiness.

I read this and thought, “What beautiful descriptive writing!â€

Omega, no questions this time. heh Just want to say that when you put in this much effort and patience in responding to our questions, I feel you're showing us a great amount of respect, which I sometimes feel I don't deserve. I have no problems with girls with nail polish.
Sam*ron, Buzz Question #5 wrote:Do you think nail polish is stupid for guys, or cool?
I think it is imprudent for guys to wear nail polish since it is usually not considered appropriate in most occasions. However, there are always exceptions like those J-rock guys that have recently become popular here. So, for those J-rock guys, nail polish is probably required fashion for their profession (I guess).

I have fidgeted in the past.

I cannot give you a measurement since I never measured my hair length. However, I do have two relative thresholds that I use to determine whether I should get a hair cut. Not only did you provide a huge amount of information to begin with, but to continually answer so many questions is quite a task, too. Although I haven’t been a member here for very long, it’s apparent that quite a few people here look up to you, and I can understand why.
Now, about some of your comments:
Okay, I will be glad to clarify what I have said before.
Kaori wrote:While I realize that you have already discussed this with more than one person—and it is certainly not my intent to start an argument—I must say that twenty pages of questions and answers demonstrate very clearly that, whether or not you consider yourself interesting, many other people do. In fact, it probably would be accurate to say that the community here finds you absolutely fascinating. From what I’ve read, I would agree with what others have already said in that you are an interesting and remarkable person, and that to be hard-working, self-disciplined, and determined is as unusual as it is laudable.
I only have a few responses to these comments. First, I am not sure how to gauge this community's fascination with one individual. The engineer in me is being a little skeptical about using the length of one's Who's Who thread to measure a community's fascination. It might actually be a good metric, but I am not so sure about that. Second, I determined that I am not interesting or remarkable because of the lack of interest I generated with a great deal of people that I have met in my life. This would include many people who are not part of this community. In other words, I made my determination from a different scope.
Kaori wrote:As a musician, one thing that I have heard over and over again is that it takes more than technical ability to be a good musician. That is, just because someone can play all the right notes in a piece without having to spend much time practicing isn’t enough]Hmm, I do not believe I am underestimating my abilities in this case. In my experience, expressive playing was a gift that my competitors had, but they did not care to exercise it all the time like I did. When they chose to do so, they tend to express their music appropriately without as much labor as I experienced.

Before I comment on the stated example, let me say I am aware there is more to writing than plot, but personally, when I read a story, plot is very important since it is one of the major factors in keeping my interest.

That paragraph probably shows good writing. But with the facts that I just stated, does that paragraph show that I am a good writer?

I do not believe that paragraph shows anything other than the ability to produce good writing. Similarly, I believe that the facts you stated only demonstrate your speed at writing, not your ability. There have been great authors that spend days on a single sentence, and other equally great authors (judging roughly from general critics) that write chapters in a single hour.

LOL I doubt it has anything to do with the length of a thread. I don't even know whether members such as...let's see, maybe Ashley, Chloe or UC have threads here but ppl look up to them anyway. For me, it's just how you treat others and what values you hold.

Assuming you are addressing my stance on not entering a romantic relationship when I cannot responsibly do so, I will accept that assertion.
I do not mind at all.

I probably haven't said this yet: I wish more guys would think that way.

My first dream is to protect my parents and ensure that they live the rest of their lives together happily and in peace. My second dream is to be a loving and responsible husband and father for my family. I cannot recall any other dreams at this point.

Impressive. Those goals are terribly challenging. The prospects of being a mother scares the daylights out of me.

Um, okay. However, I do not understand why you sometimes feel you do not deserve such respect.

Ah...perhaps, I let out a little more than I ought to. Oh well, sometimes I rant too much and ppl don't really respond to that. So I guess when you respond with as much detail as you do with every single post, I guess it's a pleasant surprise. ^_^

I find it quite funny everytime I read "is being hugged" XD XD I might as well.... *hugs Omega* :)

I agree that the degree of a community's fascination cannot be precisely measured by the length of a thread]In other words, I made my determination from a different scope.
That's only fair.

Omega Amen wrote:I am aware there is more to writing than plot, but personally, when I read a story, plot is very important since it is one of the major factors in keeping my interest.

It was not my intent to imply that such was your opinion, nor to undermine the importance of plot in storytelling. However, since many genres (poetry, much of nonfiction) do not requre plot at all, it is possible to be a good writer without having a mastery of plot, which I believe is the point I was trying to make.

Omega Amen wrote:It took me several hours, revisions, consultations of the dictionary, and other resources to produce six sentences to describe my thoughts on a subject that I tend to think about a lot over many years.

I concur with uc pseudonym's comments about writing speed.

Omega Amen wrote:That paragraph probably shows good writing. But with the facts that I just stated, does that paragraph show that I am a good writer?

Whether demonstrating good writing necessarily makes one a good writer is a question that probably depends greatly on what one considers to be a good writer, and also on the definition of the word 'writer.' I was using the word in the broader sense of 'one who writes,' rather than 'a person who writes by profession.' Since I don't particularly wish to address the precise nature of the relationship between good writing and a good writer, I can't really answer your question.

Normally, I respond to comments and questions in the order they are given. However, this time I find it easier to respond to comments grouped by subject matter.

Kaori, about my "plot" comment, I made it before you went into your main point to just give you a side-note of clarification on why I stated that as a reason for my self-doubt as a good writer. It was meant to be just a note and nothing more. I did not feel you were trying to imply what my opinion was.

But this does lead to my opinion on what being a good writer means, which might help clarify my stance and earlier comments. A good writer has a good handle (not sure if that is the best word)... on the art of writing. The analogy on the top of my head would be the writer's paint is words. (I admit it is not the best analogy.) A good writer should be able to point out themes, make important points, keep his/her audience's interest, be able to describe abstract concepts, narrate a series of events (be it in a history book or novel), etc. with words with reasonable consistency to indicate he/she has a good handle. Granted, a good writer will be able to do some of these tasks better than others, but he/she should be somewhat comfortable doing some of these tasks with words.

In my previously stated facts on the writing about my thoughts on black hair, I intended to imply that I did not have a good handle on the art of writing, thus I currently do not consider myself a good writer. uc pseudonym, I understand your point about writing speed. There are times in all forms of art where it just takes a lot of time to do a certain thing right. I know that from my piano playing experience, and I considered myself a good pianist. However, there is a difference between difficulty in the task itself and the difficulty that arises from a lack of mastery in the necessities of the art to achieve it. Personally, I feel the difficulty many times (including this example) came from the latter.

Now, Kaori, you are the English Literature major, and uc pseudonym, you read and write more often than I do.... In your view, I might be too demanding in what I expect from a good writer. But in general, I have always had high standards. I willingly give these standards to everyone, and I make sure I am no exception to them. However, take this as a sign that I believe everyone is capable of achieving them, including myself. Therefore, I will say I do believe I have potential to become a good writer.

By the way, this discussion on writing did help inspire me to write that Losers' Lounge story in the Second Annual CAA Tournament.

Mave, just for your information, Ashley, true_noir_chloe, and uc pseudonym all have Who's Who threads.

Okay, I think I have really chose the wrong word there. Probably, "indicate" instead of "measure" would have been better. I intended to express doubt that a lengthy/long Who's Who thread is a reliable sign that this community (which is very large and diverse) is fascinated with me. For example, it might only show a few members, rather than the community, are fascinated with me. I should have stated this more directly and clearly the first time. My apologies.

Now to other matters....
Mave wrote:I probably haven't said this yet: I wish more guys would think that way.

I guess being in Georgia Tech, where there are few women, it is easy for me and other guys there to exercise my stance on this matter.
Mave wrote:Impressive. Those goals are terribly challenging. The prospects of being a mother scares the daylights out of me.
Well, if you want to achieve great goals, you have to acknowledge and reach for them. Kaori did ask for my dreams.
