Meh, the Superbowl isn't that great. I like watching the many short videos they play, but they're constantly interrupting it with football.

I'll tell you who WON'T win though. The fans. Have you seen the absolutely awful picks for this year's Superb Owl? Christina Aguilera for the national anthem? Guess I'll be tuning in ten minutes late. The Black Eyed Peas for halftime? Ugh. Pitiful. Absolutely pitiful.
Of course I'm really annoyed at the NFL's attempts to bring "normal people" into football anyway. I've had to deal with stupid national anthem singings at all of the playoff games, and their decision to make halftime into a big thing for the Superb Owl is a poor choice anyway, it shouldn't be like that. It's like the NFL does everything they can to annoy people who ACTUALLY WANT TO SEE THE GAME.

Christina Aguilera's music and style might not be...all too impressive, but I don't remember anyone ever dogging her voice. I'm interested in watching her take on the national anthem.
Anyway, I think this could be a classic Super Bowl. I'm a little torn - I like the Steelers - one of my favorite teams, but the Bears are my VERY favorite team, and I wanna root NFC North. I do think the Steelers will ultimately win, though.

I would be if I gave a crap about the national anthem instead of it being a ratings gimmick. Which is why I'll be tuning in late purposely to avoid seeing it.

Well of course, the Steelers didn't pay off the NFL refs to lose.

Ahem. The superbowl is being played in Dallas. That's aways from PA.
I'm quiet unhappy with the NFL administration. I wish the superbowl was still played in december. I was planning to travel home for a weekend but the game is next week, and since I live near Dallas, the roads are going to be PACKED!

Hasn't the Superb Owl been in January for like the last ten years?
Also, I think the Owls will win.
Everyone is fond of Owls.

Yes, and when the Steelers paid off the refs, they paid them all off. Why would they only pay off local refs? That wouldn't make any sense.

The Superbowl has never been played in December, it was always played in January. But was change to Feb since Super Bowl XXXVIII.
Packers are going to win, my wife says so!

Roy is correct, the Superb Owl has always been played in January until recently. The reason for this seems to be because of the Pro Bowl. The Pro Bowl used to be played after the Superb Owl, in February. However last year the NFL moved the Pro Bowl to the week before.
Why they did this I'm not sure, as it prevents either team in the SB from playing in the Pro Bowl. My guess is that after the SB, most people don't really care about football since the champion is decided, and so the Pro Bowl got lousy ratings. Thus, they decided to move the Pro Bowl to the week before and have it be the only football you'll get until the big game. An appetizer if you will. Having only recently gotten into football, it may also have either allowed the SB teams to have an extra week of rest before the big game, or take advantage of the extra week of rest, depending on whether the teams got an extra week break between the championship game and the SB before the Pro Bowl got moved up or not. If there had already been a week break in between, the NFL might have just said "Hey we have this Sunday in between the championships and SB, why not just put the Pro Bowl there?"
Of course the Pro Bowl sucks and nobody cares, so yeah.

Why do you folks keep calling it the Superb Owl? And Nate, where do you get your "they pay off the refs" from? According to my dad, they've never been accused of that.

I watched Steelers games this year.
We have two options for how the refs called Steelers games this season.
Option A) The refs are mentally retarded and nearly blind, and possibly don't know the rules of football.
Option B) The Steelers paid off the refs.
These are the only two options. Since I'd like to think the NFL doesn't hire mentally retarded people to act as referees, that leaves only option B. Now granted, the refs might actually be mentally retarded and the Steelers are innocent, but since I don't want to accuse people of that if I don't know them, I think B is the safer answer.

Yeah but do you have a source? I'm just giving you the same flack you gave me in that other thread. Shoe's on the other foot now!

Yes I do, my source is all the Steelers games played this season and my eyes. If you're asking me to link you to a site where you can illegally download/stream those games, sure, I can do that for you. If you want to break the law to get the proof, since you'd be viewing/downloading them without the express written permission of the National Football League. :p

I don't really dig football, but I'll root for Pittsburgh since PA is my home state. Whether they lose or win (honestly or otherwise) I don't really care.

There is a few reasons why the Super Bowl is played in Feb now and not in Jan.
NFL always starts the season the weekend after Labor Day. Years ago, they tried for a few years starting the season Labor Day weekend but it didn't work out because of the holiday and because high school and college football starts on Labor Day weekend and the ratings were not good, because some of markets areas were going to big high school football kickoff classic games as well as college football games.
The NFL felt that Labor Day weekend should for high school and college to kick off the season, so they plan to start the season every weekend after Labor Day.
Also, the NFL at one time got rid of the bye week between the conference championship and the Super Bowl, but put it back in some time back. With the addition of having each team get a bye week during the season and bye week between the conference championship and the Super Bowl, the Super Bowl now cannot be played any earlier then February 1st.
Now if the NFL goes to a 18 game for each team, then it could be ab even later date as NFL has said they don't plan to move season up and have the start of the season at the same time as high school and college football starts.
One of the major reason for the Pro Bowl to be played the week before the Super Bowl was a one year test and to play it at the same stadium that the super bowl was going to be played out, but that was only for 2010. This year, it was moved back to Hawaii. This was not a new notion to have the game moved up to take place between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. The NFL had discussed it multiple times in recent years, and commissioner Roger Goodell said, that having the game precede the Super Bowl would avoid a "somewhat anticlimactic" ending to the season.

Man, sure is hard for the Steelers to win games when the refs won't call penalties in their favor! Except for a couple of bogus calls (FACEMASK? SERIOUSLY? FACEMASK? If you can show me facemask in that replay I'll donate both my kidneys) the refs didn't give the Steelers much help. And wouldn't you know it? When the refs don't give them yards, the Steelers can't win.
Shouldn't have been as close of a game as it was, Rodgers and Collins were lucky that they weren't playing a good team, or their constant slip-ups might have been costly. If it wasn't for a couple of dropped passes they would've gotten at least 14 points more, and they're REALLY lucky Swain's catch was ruled incomplete and not a fumble.
Still, I am satisfied with the outcome of this year's Superb Owl.
