CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

I love to watch Christmas movies and specials during the holiday season. So, I thought we'd share our favorites. Here are some of mine:
1. A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott and Patrick Stewart versions are my personal favorites)
2. It's a Wonderful Life
3. Charlie Brown Christmas
4. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
5. Miracle on 34th Street (I like the original best, but the one with Richard Attenborough isn't too shabby either)
6. The Life and Times of Santa Claus (little known stop-motion cartoon based on L. Frank Baum's book of the same name. It plays on ABC Family annually, check it out if you haven't seen it)
7. Nightmare Before Christmas (yes, it totally counts as both a Halloween movie and a Christmas movie)
8. That one Don Bluth did. I forget the title
9. The Little Match Girl. (A Disney short you can find on youtube or on the Little Mermaid DVD. It's so heartbreaking! )

um, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't White Christmas and Holiday Inn the same thing?

No, they're not. White Christmas was a song sung in the movie Holiday Inn, and later there was a movie of the same name.

Holiday Inn was a black-and-white movie made in 1942 starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. Wikipedia link.

I only saw Holiday Inn once, sadly, so my memory of that film isn't very good. However, White Christmas is hands down my favorite Christmas movie, and I watch it every year.

I think I saw It's a Wonderful Life once, and meant to last year, but didn't get around to it.

Can't think of any more personal favorite Christmas movies, though I just saw all but the last half hour of A Muppet Christmas Carol today, and I wish I could have seen the rest.

Well, no. White Christmas was a partial remake of Holiday Inn.

These are the only ones I pretty much try to watch annually...I'm surprised no one's mentioned A Christmas Story, yet!

I hate most Christmas movies with a passion, because they tend to go for shallow sentimentality while completely ignoring the true meaning of Christmas. There are a few that I like, though:

It's A Wonderful Life
The Christmas Shoes (the biggest tear-jerker I've ever seen)
A Christmas Carol (new performance-capture CG one)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated, starring Boris Karloff)

And the Charlie Brown Christmas movie isn't too bad, I suppose, but I think I've just seen it one too many times -_-

Definitely not White Christmas. There is probably nothing especially bad with the movie itself, but the annual family viewing has definitely outworn its welcome in my mind.

I love White Christmas. But I also didn't discover it until a couple of years ago. Didn't care for Holiday Inn as much.

Home Alone. I liked it as a kid. I still like it as an adult but for different reasons.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas. NOT the live-action abomination.

I didn't much care for It's a Wonderful Life actually.

Also you must not have liked the Don Bluth special that much if you can't remember the name...

Beat me to it and took the words right outta my mouth. XD I watch all the old claymation Rudolph shorts with my family, too, because those are tradition.

I really want to see The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus again. It's not very "Christmas" in the traditional "deck the halls with boughs of holly" sense, but I remember it being a pretty neat fairy tale. I used to have it recorded a long time ago but I haven't seen it in years.

Just googled it. It was called The Small One. Gimme a break I only saw it once.

Die Hard is the greatest Christmas movie ever made. I also think Scrooged ties with it.

I would also like to add in the Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and Santa Claus episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Don't disown me, Nate. I love it too. Just haven't seen it in awhile.
Anyway, here's a cartoon that a local independent station (today it's a Fox affiliate) would play every year around this time. It dates back to 1938 and is a true classic. I loved it as a kid, even though it's uber-depressing. There's a part of me that thinks this will be our legacy.

Pretty sure I mentioned liking Home Alone.

I never was particularly fond of Home Alone. I don't think it was a bad movie, just not my thing I guess. The sequels were all horrendous though.

My family didn't watch anything particular every year at Christmas, I think because my parents had seen a lot of the old specials so much they were sick of them. I still haven't seen "A Christmas Story," and I didn't see the Charlie Brown Christmas until I was in college.

The Invader Zim Christmas episode. I think this is the only film-related tradition my family has at Christmas time.
The Pinky and the Brain Christmas episode. Also very good stuff. Pinky and the Brain is classic.

Yes to Die Hard.
Yes to the old Boris Karloff Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
Yes to The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Yes to It's a Wonderful Life.
And an oh so emphatic yes to the Doctor Who Christmas episodes.

While You Were Sleeping is both a favorite Christmas movie, and my favorite romantic comedy.

Also, I think of the Harry Potter films as being at least slightly Christmas related, partly because Christmas happens in them, and partly because the first time I ever saw the first Harry Potter movie was at Christmas time at my grandparents' house, and I only ever watch them when I'm with my family. So they feel kind of Christmas-y to me.

Discussions like these always make me kind of sad, since there never seems to be anyone other than me who likes The Snowman

I like The Snowman but it's not one of my all-time favorites.

I saw The Snowman a while back. My [then] baby sister fell in love with it, so I saw it several times. But I think I still liked it. ^^; I'd forgotten about it, though.

Well, after tonight I have two new ones-

The Eureka Christmas special, and the Warehouse 13 Christmas special. Both were awesome- though the Eureka edged out W13,
