I kid you not. I just saw Twilight-themed toys in Burger Kings' Kids meals. What were they thinking?:stressed:

They were thinking about all of the Twitards/Twimoms who will now stop and buy one of their overpriced toys, and the "food" that comes with it.

They were thinking "I bet we can make some serious cash off this."

And they were probably right.

At least it's not as bad as when McDonald's had Happy Meal toys themed after Batman Returns. Yeah, let's put a sex-crazed leather-clad whip-carrying blonde on the children's meal boxes! WHAT A FANTASTIC IDEA!

I don't see a problem. I have seen worst toys in kids meals then this and they are so going to make a lot of money off of this.

Good business is making money off the new hot item on the market that has a big fan following.

I don't think this is that weird considering I just saw an Edward doll on sale at Target the other day.
If there's a popular movie/fad, sales companies will milk it for all it's worth. Kid's meals is just another way to market stuff (plus, they might have teen girls and even older women getting kid's meals too, instead of just kids).
Plus, McDonald's already had The Last Airbender and Ihop had Despicable Me, so they had to take what new movie they could get.

These "Toys" aren't really toys, if I recall...more like cheap plastic "gear" I think guys get stuff like arm bands, and girls get mini tote bags. XD

And no, I didn't get any of them...

Years back, McDonald's put beanie babies in happy meals and the target was the beanie babies fans and not kids.

So, they will do whatever popular movie/fad that they can.

Also, Burger King has a deal with the twilight movies anyway and even the Burger King store and bag with their logo on it has been seen in the movie. So this maybe part of their deal now with the movie company and Twilight franchise.

I remember when they had Transformers toys for the first transformers movie. When I saw the movie, there was a word that my Mom didn't want to explain to me (not a swear), and I couldn't understand why Burger King would market a movie inappropriate for kids...to kids. Don't they care if the source material is inappropriate? And don't the parents notice/care?

In Burger King's defense, here's what probably happened.

So the first Transformers movie is about to come out. The original was a kids' show. So, people assume that the remake will probably be a bit darker, but still generally appropriate for kids. Remember, at this point, nobody has seen the movie yet. Nobody knows the content.

Burger King of course is a business and wants money. So, they sign a contract with whoever is releasing Transformers to promote the movie with their kids' meals. Again, the movie hasn't been released yet at this point, so they don't know what kind of content it contains. They get the deal, and promote the movie through the kids' meals.

It isn't until AFTER the movie is released that they realize what the content is like, but at this point it's too late because they're in a legally binding contract, and dropping the promotion would cause them to get sued in court and all that fun stuff.

This is harsh, but it's how the world works. *resists urge to rant about this*

And as for what you said, it does make sense. I guess it hadn't occurred to me that they do the contracts in advance and all that. Not that I spent a whole lot of time on it. So, my mistake.

Amen! When I was young we got fast food once a week or so, and I've never forgotten the magic of getting a toy along with a tall fountain soda and four to six tasty chicken tenders at Burger King. The toys may be plastic crap from China, but as a lad that was definitely enough for me!

Being generally unsympathetic with the Twilight craze, for the sake of our young I miss the days when they had toys from The Land Before Time or of the Backstreet Boys.

It really... doesn't bother me all that much they have Twilight toys. As Nate said, McDonald's has done worse.

On a different but related topic, Lotteria (Korean Fast food chain popular in Korea and Japan), they have a Starcraft II promotion. While in the US, you get special stuff for getting super sized or whatever, in Korea, you get it by getting family packs. So you have to get 2 burgers, two drinks, 2 sides to get entered to win a laptop or a free soft serve ice cream.

Um...isn't Starcraft M-rated?

Nope, it's rated Teen in the US, and in South Korea, it comes in 2 versions: a censored version (rated ages 12+ by the South Korean game ratings board; probably equivalent to a T) and an uncut version (rated 18+, equivalent to an M). To me, that promotion sounds closer to the age-unfocused Monopoly game McDonalds used to do, or other "pull and win" games, rather than a kids' meal toy, focused on marketing said product to kids.

I wouldn't say that's true. Twilight is still quite popular amongst women. It simply doesn't sit well with most of the anime fanbase.

As "the Barney" is a show that draws hatred from those primarily outside of its intended audience, I'd say it qualifies, but I guess ADULT women aren't the intended audience, if that's what you're saying.

Actually, no, bonds formed from hatred are actually quite strong. Westboro Baptist Church is an excellent example of this.

But, yeah, bonds of hatred are pretty strong. Even about silly things. It's also why there's hatred for "fanboys" but much less for "anti-fans" or whatever you want to call them.

It's a reference to the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I would recommend it, but I've only seen to ep. 4, so I can't vouch for the content (although I've heard avoid ep. 6). So far it's been pretty awesome, though.

From what I've heard, yeah. The Wikipedia article doesn't give a number of members, nor does it really describe the makeup of the attendees, and I don't really feel like trying to dig deeper to find out. Still, I have heard most (if not all) the members are family members.

His two sons, however, apparently broke away from the family. I'm not sure if they're religious or not, but if they were, it would prove my point.

Anyway, sorry for bringing it up. I know they're kind of a sore spot for all of us, and I didn't need to mention them really.

Also why troll waves are so easy to organize. You could never get a group of people to say, flood a board with praise and loving statements and friendship, but ask a group of people to flood the board out of hatred and pettiness and you can get a massive group going.
