Because my goal in life is to be faster than RoyMustang:

Keanu Reeves Hopes to Star in Live-Action Cowboy Bebop.

Reeves is self-professed fan of anime and science fiction. He personally attended the opening day of the first (and last) North American branch of Japan's ANIMATE store chain in Los Angeles on December 23, 2000. He also reprised his Neo role from The Matrix in the Japanese-animated "Kid's Story" segment of The Animatrix video anthology. Not coincidentally, "Kid's Story" was directed by Cowboy Bebop director and co-scriptwriter Shinichiro Watanabe.

As usual, I'm not going to pass judgment on this film until I actually see it... as difficult a feat as that seems it might be. Who knows; maybe emotionless Keanu Reeves can learn to be a joking smoking awesome Spike Spiegel.

NO PLZ. No live-action, NO Keanu Reeves. No. Fail.

Cowboy Bebop movie

Keanu Reeves playing spike was uncomfirmed report back then, now I guess it turns into a confirmed report now. So, yay turns into ick about this movie.

How does Reeves keep getting top billing? It's not like he's a huge star, can you name one person that remembers him for a role other than Ted?

I wouldn't mind seeing a well-done live action Bebop film; I think it could be pretty successful with the right director and cast. That said, Keanu Reeves does not strike me as "right" for the role of Spike. At all. At. All. We'll see how it goes, I guess. XD

Never really was a fan of Cowboy Bebop, but Keanu Reeves is a very cool; actor. I'll give it a chance.

I would prefer no live action movie versions of anime...but oh well. If it's popular, they will do it. Money makes the world go round. As for Keanu? I can't really think of any actors that would do better that's not to say he would be good for it though. However...

I know it's popular right now to hate him for whatever reason. But some of us like his work. I know I personally liked Devils Advocate, Constantine, and The Matrix films.

I would think most people would remember him for the Matrix Trilogy actually, possibly Constantine, Speed, or even The Lake House; and of course, The Day the Earth Stood still, since that's in theaters right now.


I personally think of Johnny Mnemonic when he's mentioned as it's the first thing I saw him in. Bill and Ted's is actually one of the last things I think of when I think about what movies he was in.

There's actually a live action Death Note planned. And as far as Hollywood running out of ideas is concerned, that's absolutely true. For the most part, Hollywood is no longer interested in telling stories; they're just interested in making money. It's pretty disgusting, actually.

Witch Hunter Robin, are we talking about the live action tv series that they wanted to do or a movie?

Because I never heard anything about a movie verison, but the live action tv series was thrown out.

As for the Sailor Moon one, I only heard stories about that one, but they never came true.

The only one that is missing is EVA live action movie. Yes, ADV still wants to do this movie and about a year ago, they said they had close to 60 or 70% of the funds for it.

They need to just stop trying with that one. <_<

Eh, I think Oscar-winning movies still deserve it. Also, how does the saying go, the world has had no original ideas since the 1950s?

People gripe about Hollywood a lot, but Hollywood technically hasn't made "good" movies since what, the 50s or something? I wouldn't be so quick to assume that indie films, foreign films and anime are all better than Hollywood; 90% of EVERYTHING is crap, and at the very least, even the least biased movie critics stick many more Hollywood movies on their top 10 lists than indie film.

I've heard this a lot recently, and I do understand the sentiment. After all, it seems like the remakes and adaptations rule.

But I do have to contest the idea, based on the evidences that have been set before me in my local theater:

Pixar's films, Lost in Translation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Children of Men, No Country for Old Men, There Will be Blood, The Assassination of Jesse James, etc.

There are a whole lot of movies that are quite "original". The problem is, a whole lot of the movies that deserve attention just simply do not receive it. Like it or not, movie making is a business, and it's much easier to make another Batman move which is a guaranteed success than to spend those same resources on something fresh and new.

If we are really honest, though, movies have been like this for far longer than we've been aware of it. Even Casablanca, frequently credited as one of the best of all time, was based on an unproduced play, Everybody Comes to Rick's.

As they say, 90% of anything is crap. The other 10% loses money.

I'm an optimist and I actually liked the Lake House >_> Keanu Reeves isn't my favorite actor, but he could surprise us... I'll see it...just for the story...wonder who they'll get to play Ed?

I don't think we'll see this for a long time if at all frankly. Watanabe's pretty picky when it comes to anything dealing with Bebop. He's not going to put anything out there that expands on the series or a retelling of it if it's not going to be good.

I don't see Hollywood running out of ideas, they trying a new area in making a movie. They have done this since the start of Hollywood with plays, books, video games, comics and now anime.

I don't have that much of a problem with them making live action movies from animes or manga, but I like to see them done right.

If we want to get technical, we could say the same thing about Japan. There is alot of animes and mangas being turn into live action movies over there.

Ah, okay. The Witch Hunter Robin tv series can be taken off the list. The plan for it got pulled, but we should be thankful. The series was going to be made by the Sci Fi Channel and we know how great their original movies are. XD

Oh and we did forgot one on the list. The Ghost in the Shell live action movie, which will be done by DreamWorks and Avi Arad and Steven Paul are confirmed producers and Jamie Moss will be adapting the manga into a screenplay and it should be released in 2011.

I for one am excited that Keanu Reeves may star in the movie. I think he'd be fantastic in the pivotal role of "Man in Bar"

If they adapt it right, it could be pretty cool. Keanu Reeves =/= Spike.

If "transmedia adaption" means "a lack of original ideas" then, no, Hollywood often does not have original ideas. Anime would therefore have far, far, far fewer since the majority of anime is based on manga (in which case, if you're not a fan of Hollywood for the same reasons, how can you even begin to stomach anime?). In fact, we could say that a large bulk of human cultural history of art and narrative has never had any original ideas at all-- Ancient Greece? Nope, most of their art is transmedia adaptation of their religious ideas. Shakespeare? An unimaginative plagiarist who contributed absolutely nothing to Western culture. The Renaissance? Boldly and unapologetically derivative and uninventive.

This would also make every single piece of religious Christian art-- the Pieta, the Last Supper, David, whatever-- utterly worthless, mundane works whose creators must have been so uninspired, vapid, and dull-minded that they were simply incapable of expending any mental effort in developing any original thought.

By this definition, quite possibly the only original ideas in history might be Jackson Pollock and modern art, and the highest art form is a white canvas painted in white paint. Anyone here or anywhere else who writes narrative or creates visual art should therefore stop wasting their minimal energy in creating their uninspired works and go get a REAL job in corporate finance or something. At least algorithms and data analysis require the use of the brain.
