Eat Dirt! Earthworm Jim Returns

nterplay Entertainment Corporation has announced a partnership agreement with Earthworm Jim creator (and graphic novelist) Doug TenAppel to re-launch the multi-media career of the aggressive armor-suited annelid with a new video game, an animated TV series, and a feature film. TenAppel, whose latest graphic novel Monster Zoo is due out from Image Comics on May 21st, created Earthworm Jim back in 1994 for a video game that was a surprise hit across several different platforms. Under the new partnership agreement with Interplay TenAppel will serve as a consultant on the Earthworm Jim 4 video game and develop both an animated series and a feature film based on the property.

TenAppel was largely responsible for Earthworm Jim’s first foray into animation--a fondly-remembered 23-episode cartoon series that ran on the Kids’ WB in 1995 and1996. Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Homer Simpson, provided the vocals for the title character. The series was renown for its galaxy of weird characters (Queen Slug-for-a-Butt. Bob the Killer Goldfish), its parodies of superheroes (Lower Back-Pain Man), its abundance of absurdist humor and the way in which the characters would break down the fourth wall by talking directly to the audience.

I'm overcome with a sense of love and well-being for my fellow man.

This is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Read.

Please, please don't turn out like Earthworm Jim 3D. Please.

If this turns out well, I will be a very happy man.

Earthworm Jim!!!

I'm not sure, but I think this may have been the first TV show that my elder son and I enjoyed watching together. Definitely the first animation. I hope the new one can keep up with the same level of humor, though. Nothing I hate worse than a pale echo of the original.

am I the only one who doesn't like or know anything about this show? ^^;

maybe I just didn't entirely watch much of it...but it looked stupid to me.

What have I missed I guess? XD

It's it quirky like animaniacs or Freakazoid?

Or what? ._.

Earthworm Jim is a short-lived but popular game franchise by Doug TenNapel, who also drew covers for a lot of Five Iron Frenzy albums and directed the Internet film Sock Baby.

You know, I was just skimming this thread and planning to leave until I read this line. I've always taken the quality of Earthworm Jim on the commentary of friends (never having gotten a chance to play it), but this is something I have seen. Interesting indeed.

I hope the game will still be a 2-D platformer, though I doubt it. I hope they keep a lot of the quirky humor that was a big part of the first two games, it just wouldn't be Earthworm Jim without that.

Now if they would bring back The Tick cartoon, I will be extremely happy.

Wow... If Doug is only serving as a consultant, I'm not sure if I have high hopes. He's a really cool guy, though. :D
