Unless you have read the article in the Washington Post, Mr Takamoto worked for Hanna-Barbera Studios and created Scooby-Doo. He was 81 and lived in Los Angeles> He has many other credits to what he has done for Disney and HBS.

Looking at the date of his death, I'm wondering if the Shigure Miyamoto thing was a mix-up? *shrugs* Both Japanese guys who created something. *shrugs again*

I read his obit in today's paper. What is so remarkable is that he was inspired to become an animator while at the Mazanar intern camp during WWII.Apparently there were a couple of Japanese born animators that were also in the camp and
after seeing sketches he had made encouraged him to try his luck in the animation film when he got out.
He started with Disney and switched to working with H & B when Disney company decided to stop making so many full length animated features.
It's said his decision to make Scooby Doo came when he decided to add a dog to
what was basically a teen mystery show.Takamoto decided to make the dog the opposite of the ideal of a Great Dane after doing research on the breed and thus
history was born.

The other information about Mr Takamoto was that he was born in Los Angeles to Japanese parents who emigrated here. He had graduated from high school when World War II began.
