I fear the worst, but I will probably see it. I saw the live action dragonball movie, and there is no way it could be cheesier than that. :P

Yeah...it's kinda cheesy.

You can see it on amazon here:

Live Action Dragonball

It is from Japan and the dubbing is hilarious. You really have to see it to believe it.

It's pretty much G-rated. There is no nudity, bad language, or graphic violence.

Actually he is, but he is more of a goofy sorcerer dude than a lecherous old man. The movie takes a lot of liberties with the DB storyline.

That's ironic because here at NIU, some DBZ geeks tried to make a live action movie. All I can remember from the picture in the Northern Star was Vegeta's certainly gotten fat.

Hmm, I remember watching the DBZ live action (not Dragonball) when I was verrrrryyyy small back in Indo but it was made in HK--I think. (I have a vague impression that Goku was played by Jackie Chan...)

What I remember from it was the crazy wigs and ki blasts. It was cheesy and I can't remember anything else ^^;;;

Well, I found a few links to a HK Dragonball movie but oculdn't find any screencaps so I have no idea if it is the one I saw >_<;;

I will see it out of curiosity. Although, I don't think it will be any good, but it's always good to be an optamistic pessimist-- hope for the best; expect the worst (but not completely fitting to that extreme). I can echo BelldandyMewMew on hearing eat a long time ago; I'm still surprised that they are actually going to do one.

The FX should be good since they would use ILM. but waht about those crazy hair cuts? ooh boy... who knows, it could be done very well. without a doubt it would be a blockbuster considering all the dbz fans, but it could rake in outsiders... time will tell

I predict the movie will be bad, but will have incredible special effects. I will go see it anyway, though I'd be willing to bet it will be stupid.

Here's what I hope: that they get decent actors for the roles, and that they hire a real fight coreographer. What works for anime does not necessarily work for the silver screen.

They could make a decent movie... I just bet they won't.

Meanwhile, the offical word: almost nothing. We know Fox picked it up, and that is it. Everything else about actors and the like is rumor and/or the creation of people with too much time on their hands. The tentative release date is in 2005, so we probably won't know anything for some time.

Are you sure? The HK was Dragonball (that was the title) but in the movie they called them Dragon Orbs, or Dragon Spheres or something...

Goku became monkeyboy
Yamucha = Westwood
Um... All of the characters changed names, and the cat became a bird

Besides that, Gohan (Goku's "grandpa") wasn't dead like he was in the anime, and Shen Long was hand drawn... The bad guy looked like something out of power rangers... It was definately Dragonball and not Dragonball Z, and it wasn't Jackie Chan...

EDIT: Oops, didn't see your followup...

About that Dragonball movie... actually, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Dragonball movie, but something based on Journey to the West (what Dragonball was based on, in case you don't know). But I haven't seen it, and all I know is what I've read.

It wasn't licensed by Funimation, so the movie couldn't make the movie directly from the Dragonball franchise, but it is pretty obvious that they were trying to cash in on DB's popularity. The fact that DB comes from a much older story allowed them to do it.

I bet you any amount of money my brothers will both go see it. If its crap Joel will love and and Luke will say it was okay, but not that great. If its good, Luke will talk about how awesome it is for 3 weeks and Joel will love it. XD I'll use that as my judge. :)
