Red Sox come back on gritty performance by Schilling

Curt Schilling pitched seven innings and allowed only one run to stretch the ALCS to an unthinkable seven game series against the Yankees. No team has forced a game 7 after being down 3 games to none, and now the Red Sox have done it. Best of all, Curt Schilling had an amazing performance (despite a dislocated tendon in game 1 that still left him visibly bleeding through his sock) and he got to share his testimony on national television.

Go here then click 'Video: Schilling talks to Fox' to see what I mean.

Just in case you didn't get to see it, following is a transcript of what was said (essentially, I might have edited it a very little bit, leaving out an uh here or there). Judging from the repetition of the word 'tonight' and of all of the 'uhs' I left in, I think it's safe to say Curt was a little nervous. I'd be too, in his place (witnessing never gets easy). Anyway, here it is:

Fox wrote:Kenny Albert: Curt first of all how'd the ankle feel out there? It's alright, it's alright. I gotta say, uh, I became a Christian seven years ago and I have never in my life been as, been touched by God like I was tonight. Tonight was...I tried to go and do it myself in game 1, and I showed you, you saw what happened. Tonight uh, tonight was, was God's work tonight on that mound tonight no question.

Kenny Albert: Did you want to go back out there for the eighth inning? What did, uh, Terry Franconi and Dave Wallace say to you?

Curt Schilling: I had had enough. I was struggling from about the fourth inning on, we got a lead, I made some mistakes and they hit them right at people.

Kenny Albert: After what happened in game 1, how disappointing would it have been for you had you not gotten this opportunity to pitch again in this series?

Curt Schilling: I'd have been disappointing for everybody, you know I uh, went out there in game one and didn't get it done, but uh, these guys, I'm so proud of these guys. This is unbelievable.

Kenny Albert: First team in baseball history to force a game seven after trailing three games to none, uh, what do you expect out of this wild series tomorrow with Tim Wakefield on the mound?

Curt Schilling: An incredible game. But, uh you know, there's no reason we can't, uh, we just finished doing something that's never been done, there's no reason we can go out and do it tomorrow.

Kenny Albert: Alright Curt, great effort, congratulations.

If ANY of you have interest in baseball at all, watch this game (8 PM ET on Fox, about 20 hours from now). This was a GREAT series, such as won't be seen again in some time. You might as well watch the final game. Also, feel free to sound off on the Red Sox, Yankees, Cardinals, Astros, or whatever.

Go Red Sox. Beat the Yankees.

I know. Today's game will be very interesting. I'm so curious to see what happens. I would really like to see the Red Socks and Astros go at it. The Yankees always win (every other year). But odds are..... well... We'll just see :thumb:

I'm so happy! Boston, the only team in post-season history to come back from a 0-3 deficit to and win the series 4-3. Quite surprised indeed. Hopefully the Astros will pull a win in game 7. My fingers are crossed.

I'm a lifelong Cardinals fan, but despite this team having the best record in the Majors, I have a hard time relating to the players -- a lot of whiners and complainers, in my book -- so I've actually stopped caring who wins the NLCS. Would be nice to see Boston win it all against either team.

As a RedSox fan I'm am so glad they won, it's about time we get our turn...it's been since 1918.

Amazing too that they come back after being 0-3 and playing a good portion of the games at New York yet still pulling it off.

I wait for Boston's fabled inaptitude to show up again as it did the last time they were in the World Series against the Mets.

I am not a sports fan in any way, but some members of my family are, so I am generally aware.

In this case, I would very much like to see Boston win the World Series. It has been quite some time, for them. Plus, after they made a completely unprecedented pennant victory, it feels as if they deserve it.
