Sorry. I've just always found it hilarious when people that could care less about God, thank Him for a touchdown, or a music award.
Although you meant to be general and critical only of people who thank God without really knowing or understanding Him, your post doesn't sound that way. You sound like you are scoffing at the idea of a devout Christian in the spotlight and dismissing any possibility of the athlete being sincere. You don't have to express your well-founded skepticism with the appearance of contempt and superiority (not that you are but it sounds that way), or add token apologies you don't mean even if they are a joke. At least the tone gives me no reason to believe you are sincere.
As for Tyree, although I don't know more about him than anyone, he's known as an outspoken Christian (you can read his testimony on Beyond the Ultimate and a more detailed, recent, moving one at nj.com), for rarely being without his Bible in the locker room, for witnessing to every single one of his teammates at the beginning of the season (0-2) about how God could impact things for good, for always testifying about his faith in Christ in interviews (bpnews.net has those two stories in a truly awesome column from before the Super Bowl with him and fellow Christian Giant Linebacker Reggie Torbor, and mentions his spiritual mentor, former Giants Quarterback Kurt Warner), and he runs (as of this time last year, giants.com) Next in Line ministries with his wife, Leila.
