Star Trek's Crowning Moments of Awesome

Postby rocklobster » Fri Aug 20, 2010 4:35 am

I just noticed on TV Tropes, there is no Crowning Moment of Awesome page for any Star Trek show. UNACCEPTABLE! So, I want to make one. But I need your help. Tell me what moments from each show and movie do you think must be included.

I could go on forever...

Star Trek 2: the best moment isn't Kirk screaming Khan's name. The BEST moment in that movie is where Spock sacrifices himself to save the entire crew.

Original Series: When Kirk, McCoy, and Spock allow Edith to get hit by a truck right in front of them in "The City on the Edge of Forever"

The Next Generation: Picard is shown as assimilated in "The Best of Both Worlds"

Deep Space Nine: Sisko feeling his Federation morals fall apart as he hatches a plan to convince the Romulans to enter the Dominion war in "In the Pale Moonlight"

Voyager: The EMH doctor creates a holographic family, but sadly his daughter dies in "Real Life"

Enterprise: The great chase/action sequence where Archer has to stop the Xindi from destroying Earth in Zero Hour

....but this is just to start.

[font="Trebuchet MS"][SIZE="4"][color="RoyalBlue"]YES!! YES!! That episode was Star Trek at it's best in my opinion. I especially love the last couple minutes when Sisko is dictating to his log with the drink in his hand, yet if you note, he never actually takes a sip. It was a very powerful moment to hear a starship captain actually admit to the "crimes" he committed for the good of the Alpha Quadrant. Again, it comes back to "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan": "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...or the one."

Okay, now to talk about my other favorite epic moments in Trekkdom:

Star Trek The Original Series: I really like the Destruct Sequence in "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield". The closeups of the eyes and mouths was really well done--it added to the intensity of the moment.

"Star Trek: The Motion Picture": I have to say, in a movie this slow, there are few really epic moments, but for me, the most epic is the departure of the refitted Enterprise from drydock. The combination of the sweeping shots of the Enterprise gliding out, coupled with Jerry Goldsmith's stirring theme makes this a shining moment in the film!

"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan": Yes, I went there.

"Star Trek III: The Search for Spock": Sadly, I couldn't find a video of it, but when Sulu flips the security guard over his shoulder and then after he blows up his console, he looks back and says "Don't call me tiny." in that epically rich and deep "I Am George Takei" voice.

"Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home": That entire movie for me is Epic, but one truly shining moment was the way Kirk explains Spock's eccentricities.

"Star Trek V: The Final Frontier": Hmm...this one is hard. But I have to say, an epic moment was when Sybok revealed McCoyand Spocks'inner pain. I also like the fact that Kirk says "I don't want to let go of my pain! I need my pain!" It really confirms just what kind of person he is and all that he went through in the earlier films and the series. His pain made him who he is.

"Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country": There are a lot of epic moments here, but I have to say, the one that stands out has to be the end scene with everyone on the bridge as the Enterprise glides off to it's destiny. Sorry, couldn't find a video for it!

That's it for the time being!

nice ones, Josh. BTW, I was mistaken, there is a page for Star Trek moments. It doesn't have the movies though. BOO!

Star Trek II: Crowning moment of awesome: The end of the cat and mouse sequence in the nebula. Just... awesome.

Star Trek III: Crowning moment of awesome: "I.... am getting TIRED... of YOU!!!" (ok, not really, it's just what I remember the best from that movie)

I'll skip the other ones because I barely remember them.

Crowning moment of awesome in Voyager: The WWII holodeck episode ("The Killing Game"), when the bomb falls and a good portion of the holodeck gets blown away, and you see the WWII soldiers making their way onto the actual starship. That was just... so cool.

DS9 CMA: How about every space battle from the Dominion War? So awesome. Plus, when the Cardassians took over the station and Kira just blows the computer systems up. And when Damar announces that he's turning against the Dominion and gives his little speech telling the Cardassians to fight. So awesome. In fact, I just nominate the last two or three seasons of DS9 for one continuous crowning moment of awesome.

Did you finally choose one?

Since they already have one, I decided not to bother.

I love my deaths served cold, although sometimes, when it's chilly outside, a steaming hot plate of death is a welcome change.

Could it be... "dish"?

TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles" - Kirk is buried in tribbles, and the stage crew whack him in the head with a thrown one.

Wrath of Khan: McCoy: "You lied." Spock: "I exaggerated."

It's already on the TVTropes page, but I'll always love how Quark "wins" the fight at the end of "The House of Quark."
