AIM problems

Uh, sorry to bother you ma'am... but could you help an old denominator such as myself fix his AIM?

Well, the problem isn't exactly in the IM per se, but my firewall is tuned up too high or something. It cuts off my AIM alert system so I can't tell if someone is trying to open up a conversation or chatroom with me. It's a Norton Personal Firewall system. I don't know how to configure it so it doesn't impede my AIM but doesn't let too much other stuff by either. Can anyone help me out?

I would suggest looking for the AIM port (anyone know that off hand?) There's got to be a way to tell norton to allow access on a specific port (80 for web traffic, etc) and if you can get it to allow the AIM port, that should solve your problem.

OK. A quick google search tells us that AIM is port 5190. Just set norton to allow access to that port, and you should be all set. If you are using XP, you may have to tell XP to allow traffic through on that port, too. Just FYI.

Thanks. That should work.

Well, let me know if it doesn't. I'd be happy to see what else we can come up with.
