I looked up T3, and it said it was basically 600+ 64kbit lines, and it comes to less than 44megabits.

I know that these 64kbit lines can run 700kbit+ DSL all on the upper 11 kbits (the 53kbit used for the phone), so why does a line of 600+ standard phone lines only run 44 megabits? That would mean that a full speed 700 kbit/s download could only be offered to 8 people at a time, yet things like the online radio stations could offer it to more than that, I would think, and those are sponser supported.

How does a large server run, when the connection is that small on a T3? If the DSL can run on 11kbit connection, could something similar be done on the T3 lines to handle larger connections? Could you get 4000 megabit connections on these lines with something like that DSL? Otherwise, what does it take to run a server?

Besides that, a Pentium 4 slows to a halt under a full strength download (700 kbps), but these servers run much more and have to stay running. I know about the racks, and I've heard about the Xeon processors. What exactly does the Xeon processer do different than the pentium?

Xeon class processors are enterprise class server processors. They're built to handle the trafic and respond to requests quickly.

As for the lines, i'm not sure exactly how the online radio stations such as di.fm (digitally imported, one of the most highly trafficed web radio stations out there) can support the massive amount of users...though they do provide multiple .pls (playlist files) which are set to request the streaming data from different servers, so my guess is that they have a large number of servers for their content. Other stations probably do this as well. Um...as for the speed of the lines themselves...do research on dual channel OC3 lines, i'm pretty sure that the big corporations would use that being as it's the fastest I know of... (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that)
