I Need a PC Geeks help

I just receieved a message checking my e-mail that said a cetain ip addess didn't match users address and it said someone may be trying to eavesdrop on me. I hit 'accept' but nothing happened. Was that bad??? *huggles Trixie, her laptop* I don't want her to be killed! Help me!

was this in a webmail box?
I'd say it's more likely to be baiting spam, to try and get you to do something like login at a fake page that's copying something real (ie. eBay or Paypal). but you'd have to post the headers or the full message to really know.

no it popped up as a web alert. i'm using opera, not IE if it matters.

yep, that is a popup, advertisement.

Slater is probably correct - it's likely a pop-up advertisement designed to look like a legitimate box.

Next time you see it (if it ever happens again), use the printscreen button to get a screen capture and post the picture. We'll be able to tell more from that.

If weird windows keep popping up, you should install & run Spybot and/or Ad-Aware to check for spyware.

I agree that that was most likely a pop-up advertisement. You should simply close any such windows. Clicking inside the window - even if you are clicking a close button inside the window - can trigger spyware to download onto your system. Close the window by clicking the X button in the title bar of the browser window.

I would recommend downloading an anti-spyware program like Ad-Aware to check your system for malicious programs.
