Wasn't sure whether to put this in goof-off or not, but it's a computer thing, so... here it will be!

Post any easter-eggs you know of!

MSWord
  1. Open a new file
  2. type in: rand(200,99)
  3. Press enter and wait a few seconds...

mIRC
  • Open the About mIRC window and right-click the version info line
  • Click the mIRC icon to the left (in the About mIRC window)
  • Type in "arnie" at the About mIRC window
  • Click the programmer's nose

Notepad
  1. Open a new text file in notepad.
  2. Type in one of the following (without quotes):
    Code: Select all
    "this app can break"
    "Bush hid the facts"
    "Mary had old lambs"
    "aa aaa aaa"
  3. Save the .txt file.
  4. Close Notepad.
  5. Open your .txt file
  6. Note: This only works once per path/filename, so you'll have to make a new .txt file to try each one out.

I know you guys know of a billion others, so let's hear them!

umm...with the notebook stuff, all I get are random Chinese(i think?) characters. What's the point?

Sweet topic though. I love easter eggs. Can't say I remember any at the moment b/c I haven't used 'em in awhile. However, there's some good ones out there & i'll share if I come across more. ^_^

Chinese letters happen because Notepad gets confused between ASCII and UTF-16. It firstly doesn't store encoding, so at opening it guesses, wrongly, and makes Chinese characters. If you save it again however it does store the encoding now, and won't do it again.

I remember Lotus WordPro 97 had a cool easter egg where you go the the About box and click on the letters "P O S S U". Then out came a possum and you click on it, and it er.. 'produces' an easter egg and you click on that and it gives you a little 3D maze game thing with the wall textures being photos of the people who made it.

And I remember a few Win95 ones working back in the day... But I could never get the Excel 2000 one working (maybe because our Office came with Service Pack 1?).

Type "about:mozilla" into the address bar of Firefox.

If you're on a Debian derivation of Linux, type "apt-get moo" in the command line.
