Quick Question

Postby Spencer » Mon Jan 31, 2005 5:23 pm

This has really been annoying me for awhile now, so I figured I'd ask the computer gurus of CAA for some support.

Recently, my computer has been acting unusually. Every time I click a link, it times out, and then I have to click it again. It usually works fine the 2nd time. This happens for most things, like everything I try to load takes 2 tries to work. It's pretty frustrating, and I'm wondering if there's something I can do about it?

As for stats, my computer goes to the internet through an Ethernet cable to my dad's computer, which connects to our DSL connection, so his computer has to be on for mine to have internet access. I'm running Windows XP, and using Mozilla Firefox version 1.0. I use Ad Aware and Spybot: Search and Destroy reguarly.

If anyone has any ideas on what may be wrong, it would be great to have some input.

Thanks.
:)

I cant say I know much about Internet Connection Sharing but it's possible either your NIC or the NIC where your machine hooks into your father's machine is malfunctioning, maybe the configuration on either machine.

I'd suggest instead of using ICS, get a multi-port router/switch that will mask both of your computers behind the IP that your DSL provider gives you.
Something like this Linksys wired router or this Linksys Wireless-G with integrated switch, consider the wireless if you think there may be any future plans to get more computers or move them around.
