Do you recommend it? My friend says to get it (hes really well off with computers) but others say that im better off without SP2. To download or dont?
apparently it says i have to back up some files. But i do NOT know which ones will be affected or not. So which ones should i back up? Does that included installed programs? Or like images or .avis or mpeg layer 3 files or something?
im basically asking what files i should backup

Even though it is a huge download its worth it. SP2 is much more secure than the previous version. Download it now if you want your computer to have better security.

I installed it, but deactivated the Microsoft firewall software -- I already run a three-prong security suite (Zone Alarm Pro, McAffee Antivirus, and Lavasoft AdAware) and I'd heard there were conflicts with SP2. Even if there weren't, I'm still happier with those non-MS products (and am finding myself more frequently using Mozilla / Firefox for my browser over IE). So... no problems so far with SP2, it's got a couple features that are an improvement over the original XP, but I've "defanged" it a little as well. (I did it without a backup... risky, risky....)

Argh! Don't do it if you use the Internet! It's more secure, but Microsoft Firewall turns itself back on randomly, and it screws up a bunch of other stuff too...let's just say that you'll be hunting in Control Panel trying to find what the heck is wrong with your computer and how to fix it a LOT.

Hmm... I have not experienced this. Is it possible there's something else going on with your computer?
I'd throw my lot in with "Do it! Do it now!!!" That's not an optional upgrade. If you are even just sitting on the internet doing nothing with osr1, you can get infected by some worms...

I turned the firewall off once, and it never came back on. Yes, get SP2
