My computer locks up, but the mouse doesn't...?

Postby The Last Bard » Sat Jun 03, 2006 4:04 pm

Okay, here's my problem, after about...Well, anywhere from an hour to five hours my computer will lock up and I'll have to turn it off and on.
I can still use the mouse, and sometimes after I wait a while it will start working again, but I usually can't use something, (MSN Messenger. I think I haven't been able to use Windows Media Player a few times.)

It usually happens when I'm listening to music and chatting or browsing. The music will continue to play, but I'm not able to click anything. I can still use the mouse, but not click anything.

Right now I'm listening to a song in WMP and typing this and my CPU usage is 18% is that okay?
MSN Messenger is running in my system tray, and nothing is happening with that. And I currently have 53 "Processes" working or whatever.

I can take any help! Thanks!

Yeah, it sounds like a virus or spyware. If your computer is running at near 100% at any point, there is usually a problem, so if that happens sometime in the future...you know what to look out for. It could be, thuogh, that your sound card can't handle the music.

That makes it sound even MORE like spyware/malware. I'd strongly recommend using adaware or another such package to ensure you do not have malware installed on the computer. You'll want to run it under the affected account, though.
