Postby ssj2gohan61 » Tue Apr 03, 2007 7:50 pm

hey everyone it seems my power jack is messed up, and the computer shop said the motherboard is kinda cracked and said my next option would be to solder it directly to the board or buy a new board, i dont have much money right now so who can tell me where to solder the wires on the board its kind of like a coaxial cable with an outer and an inner cable which one is positive or neg. etc any help is appreciated. thanks

Edit: i have a hp pavillion zv5000 if this helps

I've read about this problem before. Apparently it's a fairly common problem because it's a design flaw with the Pavilions (I hope it doesn't happen to mine!). Just curious - how old is it?

Getting help on this forum is quite unlikely, because only someone who's done it before would know what to do just from you description. Could you provide pictures, and if possible, open it up and take pictures of the motherboard/jack connection? Then people with more general experience (not just fixing Pavilions) may be able to help.

A quick search on google seems to indicate this is not an unheard of problem with that model. You might wanna search for a while or ask on a laptop repair board - you might run across someone who can be of more use to you.

My mother's lappy has that problem right now.

The computer I say is too old (hp pavilion ze4400 w/ wi-fi) it would cost less for her to just buy a new one and have all the files taken from it and uploaded to the new one.

the cost for repairs would be about $500 I THINK, but I don't know much about pricing.

just for the hey of it...
look on the bottom of your lappy, does it have a dock port? if so you could just buy a charging dock and go with that =\ if would prvide power as well as charge your battery.
