Operating System Question

Postby Myoti » Wed Jul 19, 2006 7:03 pm

I'm getting a new computer soon and I've checked over alot of the stuff with one my friends (much more tech-savvy than I). One thing we wasn't sure about was this:

"Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005"

The site (Dell.com) offered that, Home Edition, and Pro, but Media Center seemed to be the best choice. However, I wanted to check with some of you guys and see if anyone knows how good it is. o.o/

Dell computers are cheap for a reason my friend. Because they are basic lame crappy machines.

Dell machines are okay, as long as you do a clean Windows install first thing.

I'm not really a fan of the whole Media Center Edition, but it really depends on your preferences and usage style.

Our desktop is a Dell. It works OK, but I didn't want one for my laptop, I'll say that much.

They put MacAfee on it even though I deliberately de-selected it as a software option. That really torqued me off. I ripped it out first thing.

I think a while back, Dells were okay (I bought mine around 2004) IT ACTUALLY HAD A PENTIUM PROCESSOR!

Then they decided to rip out the pentium 4's and put in celerons (Stupid I know) I think they put it back or something...

Celeron is a Pentium processor, more specifically Pentium M.

I use it, have no trouble with it. ^^

Celeron is a budget 'version' of the Pentium. Pentium M is the mobile version, and there is also a Celeron M, which is the mobile version of the Celeron, obviously. But they've dropped the Pentium name now.

The Dell software they install is removable.
