By the way, how important do you all consider memorizing the exact references to verses? I know tons of verses (not trying to be haughty here) but don't have a clue as to their references. What do you think?
Syreth wrote:These verses remind me of how the world is kind of upside-down when compared to actual, spiritual, reality. The world says, "You have to step on people to get ahead," or that the strongest, most talented or most popular are the people who are really on top. However, the Holy Spirit tells us "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." That blows me away! It reminds me of these verses too!

Young men...
Umm... ok, I'll have to work on that one some more.

An excellent idea. I have recently been struggling with the aspects of humility.Talame wrote:Actually, I think that the concept of humility isn't very well understood in the church today... we often tend to view it as being a doormat or quiet and not confronting. Can I challenge you guys, as you are memorising this verse, to think about what you understand humility to be, and then compare that with different examples of Biblical humility? I think it will make for an interesting discussion.

Good idea, and I agree with you. I've noticed in Churches here in NZ that we have a lot of respect for amazing teachers, musicians, leaders, pastors... etc., but at times can forget just how crucial and important are those who work quietly, getting no praise or recognition. Those people who do things even like cleaning the Church, smiling at people as they come in, striking up conversations with people who look lonely, praying quietly.... and the many other things people do.... those people are so important. They move in humility, and although they aren't always recognised we'd sure notice if they stopped doing thier work. .
Awesome!Talame wrote:Btw, on the 26th (i.e. in 2 days [for me anyway ]) we will have been in action for a month! Praise God!
