A Cup to Spill

Postby copper » Tue Apr 05, 2011 7:16 pm

It truly must be better to be blind
In days of darkness when the Devil drinks
And Belshazzar th' Assyrian sinner winks.
Virginity is but a state of mind,
And innocence is not a cup to fill.
The chaste man who shunneth the common whore
Doth never to himself an off'ring pour
But to some worthy maiden-bride doth spill.
No pining pater noster thou wilt pray
In earnest tears can overflow the cup
Of innocence to wash corruption up
Or bleach from it the bone-white stain away
'Til all that's left is only to lament
The beauty of another innocent.

MENE MENE TEKEL UPHARSIN
Thy kingdom is finished and divided; thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

Oh wow.
I sorta got that, but it was abit over my head. Very well done - good beat and rhyming.

btw, welcome to the boards.

This is barely an outline, I reckon there are no fewer than twenty more stanzas to write, but wanted to poll some reactions to the idea before I write it fully.

CRUCIFY: AN APOCALYPSE

[opening the post-apocalyptic scene]

I saw the earth from outer space
Through hazy stardust and debris.
She seemed to turn her shameful face.
Alas! it covered each degree.

[rewind to before the mass-crucifixion...]

I saw a different time and place
Transfix the moebius here and now
As if the universe's lace
Were knotted at the twist, somehow.

[man here makes a cross for each person, not for each person to crucify their own flesh, but for man to crucify all of each other.]

I saw the earth from outer space
Through schadenfreude vindiction.
Thick and crimson flushed her face
At man's mass-crucifixion!

Testing, testing, one, two, three---
I'm typing, but can you hear me?

Well, something seems buggy, because I wrote a whole post and then it posted but disappeared immediately. In any case...

This is not even an outline, I reckon there are no fewer than twenty more stanzas to write. But I just wanted to poll for some reactions to the idea before I try to bang the rest of it out. Reluctantly I'm revealing it as a work-in-progress for reasons. So crucify me.

CRUCIFY, AN APOCALYPSE

[opening a post-apocalyptic scene]

I saw the earth from outer space
Through hazy stardust and debris.
She seemed to turn her shameful face.
Alas! it covered each degree.
[Alas! it wrapped 'round each degree.--less simple, but better assonance---but an abrupt break, which is counterintuitive to the sentiment & less natural]

[rewind to before the apparent catastrophe...]

I saw a different time and place
Transfix the moebius here and now
As if the universe's lace
Were knotted at the twist somehow.

[here a certain number of crosses are set up by people, one for each and every man, woman, and child---not for each to crucify upon them his own flesh, but for everyone to crucify all each other, out of hatred.]

I saw the earth from outer space
Through schadenfreude vindiction.
Thick and crimson flushed her face
At man's mass-crucifixion!

This is because newer members' posts are sometimes caught in the moderation filter and have to be approved before they appear. This won't happen as much as you post more. In the meantime, be patient if your posts don't appear right away.

The eraser is mightier than both.

MY EXCALIBUR

Excalibur is twice a death
Beginning with death: the first---
The thrust of justice, sentence: death!
D--- the damned! Bless the accursed!

The second will erase the sentence.
Blood will flow---the sword is pulled.
The second death is my repentance,
My amends, my lie untold.

A word is worth the lives it saves
And mine cannot but kill.
Two deaths, but one I share with thee---
Excalibur is poisoned
At the blade and hilt
Just like a 'Poison Tree!'

I'm king of my Excalibur!
A word of love, a word of pain,
Once taken root and then removed,
Leaves emptiness and death again.

"There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health."

"Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." How deeply entrenched we are in the summer of our sin!

To cross the bar of lust for love
Said Christ, is a sin of the mind & eye.
Be married so you do not sin!
How are we wont to marry if the bar is dry?

Before the advent of our shame
Was winter; now the sun will know
That every sapling is a sin
From which the leaves can never fall.
(Woe! love is evergreen.)

Lust in the eye, knowledge in the head,
Greed in the eye of the diamond winner---
To cross the bar of marriage
Makes humanity a sinner.
