Plot Bunnies

Postby Haibane Shadsie » Wed Nov 05, 2003 6:02 pm

I have original story plot bunnies frolicking around my head.

*Goes to get rifle so she can go a' hunting and make hassenfeffer*

Nah... *Pets the bunnies*

These may eventually become stories of mine, or they may not. I've already got some original things I'm working on. Probably most of the random ideas I get never get written. Tell me if you think these things deserve to be written... and anybody besides me who wants to write them... I guess go ahead, but talk to me first?

Random Plot Bunnies ~~~~

First Plot Bunny:

I think it might be neat, someday... to write a story about a world with non-lethal wars. This idea was inspired by watching news coverage of the war in Iraq and such, and thinking about advancements in military technology. Yes, wars today are still VERY lethal. Yes, as much as the U.S. militar *tries* to avoid it, there is still collateral damage from mis-dropped bombs and such, but still, technology is striving to create smarter bombs, and such weapons to pinpoint targets such as enemy bases and weapons stores to take them out with minimal loss of life. The cops, these days, also try to use things like rubber bullets and beanbags in order to disable suspects without killing them.

I'm thinking, sometime in the future... or possibly on some other planet, what if the tech is so advanced that the nations hold non-lethal wars whereby they only destroy each others' capablities to create things that damage? What if, in this world, the taking of any life, even in war, is thought of as ghastly criminal? What if there was a young soldier fighting in such a war who accidently killed an enemy? A story could follow his journey and delve into his mind as he searches for redemption and meaning...

Second Plot Bunny:

What if, there was a planet where one race had to hunt another race to survive? What if there was one race that was completely dependant upon survival by eating the flesh of the other? (Much like how the Native Americans of the Great Plains in days of old were depedant upon the buffalo). However, the creatures this race hunts are no mere animals, but are sientient beings who defend themselves? This planet is in continual war, with one race of hunters and one race of hunted, dependant upon one another for survival, in a strange parody of nature? I got this idea while watching "Invader ZIM", strangely enough. The teacher was going to show the class a video about how to skin a moose and ZIM spoke up with a comment about hunting - something along the lines of "Does the moose have a rifle?" and not thinking that it's fair that people hunt deer but the deer can't shoot back. In this plot idea, the hunter race is hunting prey that can and does shoot back.

Third Plot Bunny:

A girl becomes involved in sleep experiments because she wishes to escape the world. The experiments involve her being put into deep sleep for dream studies... only, she finds, that when she is awake, the lines between dream and reality become more and more blurred.

Alright, those are the random plot bunnies currently hopping around my head. Tell me if any of them deserve to be written... or deserve to be hassenfeffer.

They're all interesting ideas, in fact the second one has been written about. In Mary Doria Russell's two novels "The Sparrow" and "The Children of God", that sort of relationship is the underpinning of a planet's entire culture. The story itself is told from the viewpoint of the Jesuit missionary sent to that world; they're brilliantly written.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Man, I would love to read the last one, number three plot bunny. Please write it. Please, please, Shadsie.

The second one would kind of gross me out. :shady:

I'm not so sure about the first one, but I'd love to read your article on it in the editorial section.

Anything you write I would love to read. I know you are a journalist extraordinaire. ;)

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Actually, no, I'm not a journalist. I work for a newspaper, but I'm the graphic designer. I design ads.

Oh, and... I guess I will mention it. I do have a story I started that I think you would like, Chole... it is kind of like the third plot bunny. I shared the idea with the head of my Christian writer's group and she really wanted me to write it. I've only got a little bit written, though.

It's titled, simply, "Phoenix is Hell". It was inspired by the summer weather here, where I live. It's about a girl who lives in the Phoenix area... and she slowly comes to realize that she is actually dead and in a level of Hell that is the illusion of her everyday life.

Sounds wild. I like your concept so far. I can hardly wait to read it. I used to be a graphic designer around... (looks up and wonders if I should reveal this) 1985. I'm an antique. I used to use Aldus Pagemaker on the Mac. I wrote sales brochures and pamphlets. I'm such a geek. :(

Hey, I kind'a knew you weren't a journalist, per se, but I think you are fully capable of being one.

I agree, the third rabbit looks like the best. The second sounds interesting. And I don't like the first. It looks like G Gundam story line to me.

You could always do a story of two nations at war with each other because both of the respective leaders need something for their people, and cannot get it without making war on the other nation... it can be a story about the give and take of war, where niether side is painted as "good" or "evil", if you wanted an idea to think about besides the man vs. nature scenario.

Personally, I don't have plot bunnies... I have plot Bullies! They barge in and crowd everything out and make an awful mess, so Ive found ways of dealing with this. Now if you will excuse me...

*takes clipboard and goes into adjoining room and stops when passing Uruk-Hai guard.*

"They haven't been any trouble have they?"

"No, they have not." The big orc gives a half-snarl, toothy grin.

"Good, now if any do get out of line you have my permission to have man flesh." With this the Uruk-Hai beams.

*Looks into the crowd of plot bullies and reads clipboard.*

"Plot 2365 if you will enter my office..."

I completely understand that. I think my fanfic plot bunnies are worse than my original ones. When I try to sleep at night, they climb on my head and try to chew my brain out...

You know, Rem Saverem of Trigun is a gentle woman of peace... however, when she wants me to write fanfic about her, she can be very, very vicious...

Would you like to rent a Uruk- Hai rental guard? They come surprisingly cheap (little jobs after the movies were made) and all you have to worry about is to let them feed on humans once or twice and to have a day of complete rampage once a month.

They make surprisingly good day care workers.

Go figure...
