Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind?

Have anyone read this manga? I can remember seeing, when I was about 8 or 10, "Warriors of the Wind" (yes, yes, I know that's supposedly the WRONG version but I did not know better) and I haven't seen it for more than a decade.
A lot of people apparently like this manga and Amazon.com reviewers compare it (wrongly, possibly) to "Lord of the Rings". My memmories of the anime is more or less just images and sections, no dialogue and such so I can't remember much.
Is this a good manga?

I liked it. Sometimes I didn't have a clue what was going on, but it still interested me. Some parts were bloody, though. Mizaki sure likes female heroines, doesn't he?

I'll be sure to try it. Have you read all of it or just parts?
I'm pretty sure a 100 years from now people are going to write 500 page smallprinted books examining Miyazaki's female heroines. 
Seriously, it could be an interesting subject. Has it been discussed here?

Yeah, I've only read about a fourth of ANusicaa becasue I'm borrowing it from a friend who doesn't have it all, but I'll definitely tell you it's mind boggling.
But really, I like this manga. It's violent at times, but good. The art work is-- well, Miyizaki. I think that says it all. I would go for it. (Just as a note, the distrubution of the English version of Nausicaa has released or is in the process of releasing two different versions. The first if their Perfect Collection which is a little larger in dimensions and much thcker than most manga. Despite it's seemingly oversized volumes, this version is too small, dimension wise, to really do the work justice. Miyizaki squished so much detail into it that you will really have a hard time with the perfect collection. The other version is much thinner and is large in dimensions. This version is a thousand times easier to swallow. If you buy or read it, try to get your hands on the latter version.

I bought the new large format manga the other day. I have to say I'm impressed by both the art and the story (which is rather "heavy going"
but worth it). Thanks for this news. I really enjoyed it and have already ordered the second large format volume. So far so good, but considering how many manga volumes there is, I'm rather wondering where the story is going to go. Thanks for replying, everyone.

I rented the perfect collection one from my library, and I'm really enjoying it. I didn't used to like Miyazaki's style that much, but now I love it. ^^ And I'm a fan of "deep" stories, so this is right up my alley...
By the way, I'm having no trouble with the "perfect collection" version; my only complaint is that it's flipped. I much prefer the traditional format...

You rented it from the library!? I envey you so bad!!! I don't think I can rent manga from my libraries.

I wouldn't envy if I were you; the library's collection is limited to Nausicaa, DBZ, some InuYasha, and a few adult titles.

I have read all of the Nausicaa mangas. They are really good but very very violent. There is a little nudity in the last book but it was nothing sexual, Nausicaa is taking a bath. The first book is similar to the movie.
