does W.I.T.C.H qualify as a manga? It is a comic from Walt Disney Company...

I'm not sure... but it's looks a lott like manga I think.... But I have never heard about it in any manga connection... maybe it's because it's disney(not clamp or something)

(of course it's a manga?)

I don't know anything about W.I.T.C.H. (what is that supposed to stand for) but I do know that Will Eisner puts out his own graphic novels. I made the HUGE MISTAKE of flipping through on at Borders one day. It's hardly kid stuff, and I wish upon a star that I had never seen what I saw in his book. I don't think Eisner actually markets his own novels as Disney products (although, there's not a whole lot you can do to seperate the Eisner name from Disney ...)

Thanks for the link, ThaKladd. I'll check it out.

EDIT/UPDATE:

Hmm, the art looks really good, although I can't understand a word of the text. I didn't notice any Disney material on it though ...

W.I.T.C.H stands for the first letter of the five main characters - Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin. They are 13 and 14 years old, and have magcial powers(as witches, but the girls are good). - they got it from some kind of another world, Kandrakar, and goes on missions for them and each other. They are else normal teenagers, and the stroey seems good.

There are not that many mangas arund here in Norway, but W.I.T.C.H is in the stores and is kinda popular.

oh, I forget... the sad things is that it encourages youth to go into magic, and that it gives kind of a anti biblical message sometimes(but what manga does not??)...

an example quote: "We must have faith in ourselves, because faith can move mountains" - uses a picture from the bible, to give a non-biblical message. The Faith should be in God! not any other kind of Faith can move mountains.

edit:

It's not typical disney, I know, but in my comic book the serie is copyrighted to Walt Disney Company. I didn't find a good page about it other than some italian and spanish. I think the link was to an italian page, and the manga was some kind of japanese.

I really don't like this comic. REALLY don't. The art is cute, but I saw my friend with a copy of it, and if I remember correctly, there was a small section in the back that told you how to tell fortunes or something like that. I have no problem with anime where people DO tell fortunes, but it's something completely different when they're teaching people to do that kind of thing saying "Yeah, this is okay!"

W.I.T.C.H. is pretty popular in Indo when I was still there (didn't see it still there last December though). Flipped through the pages and though it has manga influences, it's far from manga. I never liked "magical girl" stories (if it could be classified as one) and for the most part it looks like a Sabrina spin-off.

*Sigh* It's these stuff spewed from our own country that I'm more worried about than actual manga.

Who's will eisner? Is he related to Michael Eisner?

Hmm... a disney comic book... That makes me very uncomfortable.

WITCH has been really popular here in the Phils. since about 2-3 years ago. but i think i'd categorize it as "manga-influenced" than manga (i use the term "manga" to refer strictly to Japanese-produced comic books only, and "manhua" for Chinese and Korean comics). art is nice and cutesy, but it's all mahou shoujo, which i'm not too interested in. can't say anything about specific content since i've never bought one.

There are actually a "book" about w.i.t.c.h that is about how to use magic, tell the future, read the stars, cast spells ++

I agree that it's not a manga, but that it's infuenced by manga.
