the first manga you ever read?

Inspired by the talk in the manga section thread~
What was the first manga you ever read? Did you love it? Hate it? Start reading it backwards and go "what this makes no sense"?
Share!
My first manga was Fullmetal Alchemist. I really adored it, still do in fact. It was kind of odd getting used to reading the BOOK backwards, but the WORDS went forwards. Frankly, it hurt my head.
Now though, I can't read regular comics because I start reading them the wrong way. ^^;

My first manga was.... vol. 1 of Chobits, if I remember right (closely following behind it was Angelic Layer). I started Shounen Jump too, around the same time. At the time, I was SO into the anime and started picking up the manga. Although I've been reading manga for a number of years now, I don't remember ever having a problem with it.
Nowadays, I can go either way of reading the right way and the "wrong way" in manga/comics. A couple times I've gotten mixed up though^^ And can't forget that manhwa is originally our way too^^ Although with those, I've only flipped through them.

Oddly enough, I really have to think about this one. I can't tell you what my very first exposure was because I honestly can't remember (unless it was reading a friend's SJ, the first issue). However, I'm fairly certain the first time I read a series seriously was when I became interested in Naruto.
In retrospect, it got a significant amount of benefit of the doubt because I was unfamiliar with the medium (switching reading directions has never been an issue for me, though). Though I still read it, it is far from my favorite series.

Hmm, Magic Knight Rayearth by clamp! So...pretty...*_* XD I loved it at the time and I guess I still do, even though the story is a bit "meh". And I can't remember if I had trouble reading backwards or not.

FullMetal Alchemist. I decided to give the first volume a shot, went home, and returned in a couple of hours to snatch up the second, after which I scrambled all over for scans (don't look at me like that, I buy the American versions as they're published). And now I'm up to date with the Japanese readers.
Heck yes.
Least, that's the first genuine manga I seriously dabbled in. I've flipped through other books in passing before.

Heh, the first manga I picked up was Lone Wolf and Cub, vol. 1. I bought it because I had to bring a comic book to school for an assignment (no joke!). But it had been flipped for western format, so no reading problems. The first 'backwards' manga I read was Trigun Vol1. And yeah, reading backwards took a little effort at first.

I think my first was the November 2003 issue of Shonen Jump. It had the Ruroken preview... My first graphic novel was volume three of G-Gundam.

I lent it to you, right? The first volume I got was in normal right to left format.... Sometime I need to go out and buy the left-right one. <.<;;
MKR was my first too and I loved it. When I got the first one I read it straight through dinner at the Cheesecake factory and my family was amazed that I would buy a book I could read so fast.
When I did switch over to left-right format I had no problem reading it... I actually liked it better.

Rourini Kenshin Vol 1, followed by Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Volume 1. I liked both, but Nausicaa is the only one of the two I've completed. I'd love to get all of Fullmetal Alchemist, though.

Oddly enough, I had to think about this too. I think it was Gundam Wing: Blind Target. I remember it was from a Viz catalog that I had sent to me and was actually sent in paperback, American-comic style form through the postal system.
I think the first right-to-left manga was probably Fruits Basket...I remember getting really confused for a while and reading punchlines before jokes. But now I'm easily fluent in both and I hardly recognize when I'm reading which way.

I think my first one was like Battle Angel Alita or something like that. This was way back when manga were still being printed left to right. It wasn't enough to leave an impression on me.

Voices of a Distant Star. I saw it at a bookstore and thought "Well... The anime was good, so why not read this?" I enjoyed it, but it took me a long while to get used to reading in the right-to-left format.

I think it was Gundam 0079 vol.1
Ahh, the good ol' days when there was just a small section of manga underneath the american graphic novels.... before fangirls, and all that craaazy pointlessness of a bajillion mangas... (no offense)

*searches franticly for a copy on Amazon*
SQUEEEE!!
Um, well, yes, anyways...
*blushes slightly* I'm actually very new to the art. I just started reading manga last year. My first was Yotsuba&! Volume: 1. Which I own on my bookshelf right now.

Hmm....my first "mine and not my brother's" manga was book 3 of B.B. Explosion, which I borrowed from the library. Cute series, but I don't know if I'd buy it.
My bro's (which I read before my first manga) was a manga version of Monsters, Inc.

Yup you leant it to me but I own all of the left-right ones now. XD But when I did get my first "backwards manga" I really don't remember having trouble. I think I liked it alot too. ^_^

Rurouni Kenshin, vol. 2. XD When I first saw the manga section in the bookstore, I had just been getting into the Rurouni Kenshin anime, and I decided to buy some of the manga. I bought vols. 2 and 4 at first, because they featured some of my favorite story arcs up to the point that I had seen in the anime. Good times, good times.

I bought the fist volume of Furuba and the first volume of Fushigi Yuugi. I read the Furuba volume first and still follow the series, but I never continued FY.

The first manga I read was Gundam Seed vol. 4. It took me a long while to get used to the right-left format of the books. The first manga I bought was Gundam Seed vol. 3, though I haven't been following the series.

I actually did that when I started collecting Rurouni Kenshin. Bought volume 4 first, I was so confused that I have never bought a manga out of order again... no matter how much I'm looking forward to the next arc. (This was before I had seen the anime, except for a couple episodes.)

Trigun. Got a bunch of volumes (1 & 2, plus Maximum 1-6) from Rarothi for my 18th birthday, since I kinda look like Vash.
The original 2 volumes were good (the scene in Vol. 2 with the guy ripping out his own heart scared the CRAP out of me), but sometime around Maximum 2 or 3, I kinda just lost the plot. I finished #6 scratching my head in a "what's going on?"-type way.

My friend let me barrow her Tokyo Mew Mew. And thus my love of manga began. (though I had been watching anime on Toonami before hand.)

I think it was one of the Gundam Wing manga stories that took place between the series and Endless Waltz. I didn't even think about it. The first manga that I read knoing it was manga was probably Rurouni Kenshin vol. 1.
