Japanese manga!

So anyone here attemtped to read a manga in its orginal language?

I read a bit of Inuyasha back when my vocabulary was LOW and it was so so. Took me a verrrrrry long time to get through a word bubble (still in intro JPN in school, mind you).

Currently, I'm reading the orginal Sailor Moon manga that my friend luckily bought VERY cheaply. Never interested in reading the Tokyopop version because dub names and literal translations repelled me from doign so! The orginal manga isn't too too hard to read, and luckily I've seen enough of the show to know what's going on. The more I read it, the faster I go. Don't quite understand all the words, but it's not too hard to figure out, really.

Anyone else try to read Japanese manga?

I have gone through the majority of DNAngel, and a good part of the Matantei Loki series in its original Japanese. I have a very loose grasp on what's going on...but that's what text translations are for!

Lol, I read the thread title and was like "Japanese manga?" that seems kind of redundant...

I could maybe read a manga in Spanish, but I know zip Japanese. I'd love to learn, but I don't have the time... whenever I look at raws I just get frustrated because it looks interesting, but I don't know what's going on.

On the flipside, I *can* sometimes understand Japanese anime. It's easier for me to understand by hearing because of course, Japanese isn't written in Roman characters. ^^

Same with me, I was like...uhh manga is Japanese comics(don't get me 'cause I used it in the same sentence,please). Now I understand. I think for Christmas I am gonna ask for the Rurouni Kenshin #1 in Spanish. i already have the Bible, half spanish/half english. It has helped me out, so I thought that might too.
I know like maybe seven words in Japanese, not even kanji or any of that. But I get excited when I hear it on the Japanese version of Ruroken! I'm like, hah hah, I know it. Maybe sometime I'll get to reading Japanese, but I wanna go one language at a time

I've done some full-out translating on Naruto and Shaman King (kept it to myself, though, since I'm not that good.) I've also dabbled in Sailor Moon, Hikaru no Go, Death Note, Paradise Kiss, Dragon Ball (Z), Mind Assassin, One Piece, Inuyasha, and pretty much anything that the Japanese bookstore nearby carries. It's a lot of fun, but I've learned a lot of vocab that I won't be repeating as well.

Yeah it can be fun trying to get through them and just sitting there translating....

Inuyasha anime/manga taught me every bad word there is to know, really :/ Strange how they translate in the anime a small swear into "Nyngah!" when he's actually swearing in the dub *shrugs*

Oh, if only I were capable! I really need to start working on learning Japanese. *fear and trepidation*

I have tried to get through som emanga in French. That was about 3/4 of the way through French 1. Needless to say, I only caught the most basis jist of what was going on.

Kudos to everyone capable of reading any Japanese. You're my hero.

(Anybody have a good book where I could start my quest for pinacle of otaku-dom?)

I read 'em...and I agree. The dub names garbage was so freakin' stupid...hey, at least they kept the outer senshi's names the same.

But, I have one other problem with Tokyopop. In the original manga, the Starlights were ALWAYS women. 100% of the time, unlike the gender antics in the anime. But, the way Tokyopop translated it, it sounds like they translated them to be GUYS like in the anime! ARRGH!

But really, I want someone to translate the Sailor V manga...I only have the last one...

I think... my friend was telling me that they ARE girls in the orginal manga. Sort of like three Harukas in the sense that they like to crossdress and hit on girls :/ So... it's almost worse than the whole double-gendered thing.

As for Sailor V, a site showed a few translated panels of it, and I really want to read it! Preferable in English because I don't know too much about it to be able to get the just of it (nor the jokes).

Yeah... I'd really like to learn Japanese, but I lack the dilligence. The only reason I'm so far in Spanish (going into Spanish 3 next semester; I'm only a freshman) is because I had it all through elementary and middle school and I have a tutor, so I have someone on my back actually making me learn it... I don't think I could ever learn it by myself. ;_;

However it would be really cool to get my hands on some Spanish manga, it would be a fun way to practice while doing something I love.
