runouni kenshin manga

Postby sunet » Fri Sep 24, 2004 8:50 pm

hi. :jump:

i've been wondering about this manga for a while now.

how clean is it? (my mom tends to really be all protective & stuff & around her i have to be really careful about what i read. just to give you a little more info: she's one of those people who think pokémon, yu-gi-oh & cardcaptors are from the devil. not that i'm at all like her, but anywayz.)

there seem to be soooo many threads about kenshin & everything & i'd really like to try the manga out.

p.s. also, is it cleaner than inu yasha?

I once inquired about this same manga. Mave gave a pretty brief little review which I will now repost.

Mave, the wonderful wrote:Nudity = Nothing explicit, right until the end of the story. Unless you count a half naked Kenshin bandaging his wounds as nude.....

Sexuality = No sex scenes at all (read spoiler for more)
1) Only one kiss scene, clean, nothing to worry about

2) One future character is a homosexual and somewhat exposes himself during a battle. This is "censored" by the mangaka himself in a comical way. I found it more humorous than offensive.
Violence = In general, do expect slash/gun wounds, a bleeding Kenshin every now and then, and assasinations.
During the Kenshin/Battousai flashback, ~ Vol 20-21, you will see more violent killings. Hands, heads, legs will be chopped off. ^^]

Occultic = None. No significant references to any religion.

Well, I'm gonna go to bed now. Cause I'm tired. And cause Mave is gonna figure out I'm quoting her pretty soon, and *cringe* it won't be pretty when that happens. ;)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

LOL hey I don't mind being quoted at all.

I can't really compare between Kenshin and Inuyasha since I haven't read Inuyasha at all. So I can't help any further here, sorry. ^^;

I have the first six Kenshin mangas... There is quite a bit of violence. Nothing really explicet but just enough to earn it a T+ rating. Theres a little bit of cussing I can only remember reading the D word though...I might warn you that if you look close there are about three instances of people flipping others off. I haven't seen any nudity at all and there is almost no dirty jokes from what I remember. I haven't seen much of the anime yet so this is based off the manga volumes one through six only. Hope that helps you some.

Okay, Kenshin is so far a very clean manga, Mave has all of them.

Oh wait...

I just realized one thing: I tolerate cussing and I admit that I couldn't really understand every single word in the Kenshin manga. My whole set of Kenshin is in Chinese and my Chinese is...kinda weak.

Point is: You might have to watch out for cussing. I won't be responsible for any grief caused by that. I can't imagine ppl not swearing when they're being cut down or having to fight for their lives with swords.

I have had the privelige of reading both mangae. Here's my conclusion:

1. Violence. I would say IY has more of it, but RK's is much more intense.
2. Sexual Content. IY has a bit of nudity. RK has virtually none.

Rurouni Kenshin is a pretty good manga, if I don't say so myself. I am 13 and my parents allow me to read it so I am almost sure your parents will allow it. The only problem is that some of the scenes where he was battosai are pretty gross.

Noheajack, you could maybe go on ebay and order the anime if you have any money.
