Looking for manga for my friend and need recommendations!

Postby PotBelliedCow » Fri Apr 16, 2004 10:20 pm

My friend is turning 14 soon and my other comrade and I are scheming behind her back :). She's a big anime fan and we want to surprise her with something new. I was wondering that perhaps you could recommend some titles for her. She likes Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, and other sort of bishonen stuff...any suggestions?

Very well appreciated

I would highly reccomend Ah! My Goddess. safe and cute. captivating story and wonderful art. Or anything by Ranma's creator I believe it was takahasi especially Maison Ikkoku I hope i spelled that right. Chobits was very cute as well.

Angelic Layer is definately a must-read, and it's quite clean. But if you want to go for something a little different, perhaps you should look into Azumanga Daioh. There may be a few curse words and a crude joke or two, but it's really quite hilarious.

If she likes shonen... I would suggest One Piece. It's got some violence and minor language but it's a pretty wacky and funny series. YuYu Hakusho is a good manga, too, very similar to the anime series imho. Or you and your friends could all chip in and get her a suscription to Shonen Jump, in which case shed be getting One Piece, YYH, and a lot of other great shonen titles. ^^

I thought project arms was more for someone considerably older than 14, maybe I'm wrong or thinking of something else. I might be confusing it with planet ladder. I do that sometimes. I guess I'd second the Ah! My Goddess recommendation.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

If your going for Bishie type/action manga, maybe you could consider DN Angel, Canidate for Godess, Prince of Tennis or Fruits Basket...they're all pretty good~

.hack//legend of twilight is also good...^_^ similar to .hack/sign except different chars and plot. ^___^

Pita Ten is good too....on the cute side, with chibi-style characters....XD

Shaman King, Jing:King of Bandits, and Full Metal Panic I think are good manga for action/comedy....

Also, any CLAMP manga is good...essp. Angelic Layer~ like Ash said...^.^

Lessie...romance manga, I would say Fruits Basket (again), Kill Me Kiss Me, Girl got game.

I think one manga that's coming out in May, that you could consider is Chrno Crusade...I have heard a lot about it, and if its the same as the anime, it should be pretty good... :D

Okay, I think that's all....^^''

EDIT:
Hikaru no GO is also good~!!!

**Hikaru no Go and Prince of Tennis are game/sport mangas...so you might want to make sure you like em before you buy it. Because some people don't really care for mangs that center around a game or sport....^^'' just a friendly warning.... :)
