Ranma 1/2 manga

I just finished all of the Ranma 1/2 anime and was slightly disappointed by the complete lack of conclusion. I just got the first volume of the manga and so far it looks like it is following the series pretty precisely. My question is, how closely does it follow the series, and is there ever any conclusion?
