Got a bootleg CD ? Watch out for these companies!

Well, I just found out I have eight bootleg CD's...mosty in my Final Fantasy collection. :mutter:

I did buy all of them on Ebay, but it's something I won't do ever again. For the money I spent, I'll have to spend much more in getting my collection fixed.

If someones wants to get their music off Ebay, that's fine, it's just not something I'll ever do again. I'd just rather minmize the risk of getting non bootleg CD's.

Look for

I was able to report some of my bootleg Ebay CD's, but I know I'll never see my money ever again. :bang:

Note: Most of the Final Fantasy soundtracks are on iTunes, and probably for much cheaper than eBay.

But yeah, funny you should bring this up, because the other day, I bought a pirated or counterfeit copy of Mega Man Zero 3. I should have taken better notice when I saw that the cartridge color was slightly different, but the first thing that tipped me off was that it didn't save my game, and that I couldn't talk to a vital character. Then I compared it to my other GBA games and noticed subtle differences, such as the fact that the cart didn't fit squarely in the slot; things like that.

So, anyway, I took it back to the used game store where I bought it, where they said that they get these things occasionally. I'm still not sure why you'd sell something like that to the store; maybe just someone trying to cut their losses after they were duped on eBay or something.

eBay is a place where anyone can put up anything. S'why it's best to do your research on the product you're wanting to buy and there are sites that offer information on what is and isn't a bootleg to help you.

Also, considering Miya Records are Taiwan-based, I'm not too surprised. Most things from around and in the Indonesia area tend to be bootlegged.

K-O is a pretty good example of a bootleg site too. There's no "about us" or location information, kinda crappy layout, and the only way to contact is through email. Be wary of such sites.

In Taiwan, such CDs are, believe it or not, legal because of an irregularity of how Taiwan views international copyrights. Naturally they are not legal outside of it, but it is perfectly legal for those companies to produce them for domestic consumption, and of course some will leak out, wink wink.

Son May is another label to watch out for.

I've never purchased anything from eBay, but thanks for the heads up ^^

I have seen some pretty interesting things on eBay, but there was always an iffy-ness about it ^^;

One good tip I've heard when browsing/buying on eBay, always check out their rep/ratings ^^ The seller, that is :)

Dangit...apparently I've been selling bootleg CDs to people unknowingly. That would explain why they came so cheap though...

So...most of these soundtracks must actually cost those (imo) ridiculous $30+ dollags a disc prices everywhere. Darn.

I have learned.....if a Japanese CD is under $26, it's most likely a bootleg. CDJapan.co.jp is a great, reliable site for Japanese releases. MOST of the Final Fantasy music is, indeed on iTunes as are some other Japanese artists (like Tomoyasu Hotei, a personal favorite).

As for games; never buy a Pokemon game online. NEVER.

Eh? Yeah, there are bootlegs out there, but you can totally buy pokemon games online. There are bootlegs of just about anything, you just have to do your research on what is legit and what is not.

That is sage advice, Tsukuyomi, but even then you need to be weary. ^w^ For example, a certain seller on Ebay was getting lots and lots of positive feedback for an obviously bootleg Anime DVD set. This was obvious for many reasons... the most noted by me was that the series had not made it to the states yet. Apparently, the buyers had no problem with bad sub. , bad screen-sizing and overall mood-killing. X3

This is why you go to legit sites like Play-Asia, Yesasia, and CDJapan. I would never buy any CD or DVD on eBay, because chances are it's a bootleg. However, video games are a different story. There are a few sellers that have legit Japanese games, but I only go to eBay for a game if it's out of stock on Play-Asia, Amazon, and Yesasia.

Yeah, I always check the seller rating, but the people I was buying from had great feedback, and I had no clue that this was even a problem. I figured 97-100% with a couple thousand instances of feedback was pretty good.
