I LOVE Every Blade of Grass (God, God, God), even if Aaron is getting a little pluralistic and using Allah to say God, but he did that in Catch For Us the Foxes and Brother, Sister, too, it's just more apparent here.

Yeah, except in those two he was singing in arabic...Maybe he's just enamored with that...

I don't know. I've been noticing it too, and I really don't enjoy it. There is always the possibility he's pulling a Cat Stevens, too.

When I saw them live right before the release of Brother, Sister, it didn't seem like that at all...But maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah, I don't think so. I listened to a fairly recent interview where he was talking about the gospel a LOT instead of using vague but pretty sounding language to talk about his faith. I think his use of "Allah" in some cases is just a nod to his mom who is Sufi. I think it's kind of out of respect for her. I'm sure it's a shock when you have a Sufi-Muslim mom, a Jewish father, and your sons turn out to be Christians.

I've been listening to some of the new songs that are on youtube, and I really love them all. Every Blade of Grass/God, God, God really strikes me, so I've been trying to figure out the lyrics as best as I can. Here's what I've got so far:
Everywhere we look (x4) La la laaaaa, Everywhere we look!
Everyone we meet! (x6) La la la laaa, Everyone we meet!
Every blade of grass! (x6) La la laa, Every blade of grass!
It doesn't matter what you've done. (x2)
Tell me what effect is without a cause, it doesn't matter what you've done.
Now lay your faithless head down on necessity's cotton bed.
There is a Love that never changes, no matter what you've done!
If your old man did you wrong (x3) Well maybe his old man did him wrong!
If prepared to sing forgiveness songs, come down and join our band! we'll touch you like a ___, and sing forgiveness songs!
Everywhere we look (x5), it's all crazy, it's all false! It's all a dream, it's alright, everywhere we look.
If anyone has anything to add or change, please do so!
Here's a link to a good audio quality video of it!

I saw 'um right before they released Brother, Sister and ate a potluck with them before the show. It was rad. The bass player (who's name I can't remember at the moment) was one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

More lyrics, this time it is The Beetle King on the Coconut Estate:
As the hour grew late,
The day held by the coconut estate.
Raked up the dry leaves they found dead by the tree
which they burned in a pile by the lake.
The Beetle King summoned his men from the top of a rudimentary stone.
"Calling all volunteers, someone carry back here
the great mysteries that live once again."
A beetle emerged from the crowd
in a fashionable out of date shroud.
He said, "I'm a professor, you see,
it's no mystery to me
I'll be back soon, successful and proud"
When the beetle professor returned
He crawled on all six
His wings had been burned,
he described to the finest detail what he learned
There was neither a light
Nor a heat in his words.
The deeply dissatisfied king,
climbed the same stone to announce the same thing,
and in his second appeal saw to sweeten the deal
with a silver plated pot of chery.
A lieutenant stepped out from the line,
as he lassoed his thorax with twine
thought, "I'm stronger and braver, I'll earn the king's favor
one day all the isles will be mine!"
But for all his ambitions and conceit,
he too returned singed admitting defeat.
"I had no choice, please believe, but retreat.
It was as bright as the sun but with ten times the heat!
And it crackled like the thunder and bloodshot my eyes.
Though smothered with sticks it advanced undeterred,
and carelessly cast a black cloud to the sky
My Lord, like a flock of dark menacing birds!"
And the beetle king slammed down his fist!
Your flowery description, no better than his!
We sent for the great light and you bring us this!
We didn't ask what it seems like, we wanna know what it is!
His majesty's hour at last had drawn nigh,
the elegant queen took her leave from his side.
Without understanding but without asking why,
she gathered their kids to come bid their goodbyes.
Their father explained "You've been somewhat deceived
you've all called me your dad, but in truth that's not me.
I had a go with your mom and your form was conceived,
but your Father's the Light within all that you see!
He fills up the ponds as He empties the clouds!
He holds without hands and He speaks without sound!
Provides us with the cow's waste and coconuts to eat,
giving one that nice salt taste, and the other one sweet.
Even makes the eagle who hunts from above,
thinning our numbers with goodness and love.
He's dressed as a flower and His fragrance arose
so must, each of you, and your father become.
Now distribute my scepter, my crown and my throne!
The rest of our wealth: to the poor and alone."
Without hesitation; without looking back home,
the king flew head long into the blazing unknown.
As the smoke ring curled higher and higher
His troops fly loops 'round the telephone wire
they said, "Our beloved's not dead
but his Highness, instead, has been utterly changed into fire."
Why not be utterly changed into fire? A nice video can be found here.Incredible.

That's why I'd consider Aaron Weiss to be one of the best lyricists ever.

They've updated the track list. Here's the final list before the album comes out and my stab at lyrics to one of their songs i got a hold of via Aaron's live performance from last December for Invisible Children.
1. "Every Thought a Thought of You"
2. "A Stick, Carrot & String"
3. "The Angel of Death Came to David's Room"
4. "Goodbye, I!"
5. "The Fox, the Crow and the Cookie"
6. "Bullet to Binary, Pt. Two"
7. "Timothy Hay"
8. "Fig With a Bellyache"
9. "Cattail Down"
10. "The King Beetle on a Coconut Estate"
11. "Allah, Allah, Allah"
"The Fox, the Crow, and the Cookie"
Through mostly vacant streets, a baker from the outskirts of his town
Earned his living peddling sweets from a ragged cart he dragged around
The clever fox crept close behind and kept an ever-watchful eye
For a chance to steal a ginger spice cake or a boysenberry pie
Looking down was a hungry crow
"And when the time is right, I'll strike
and condescend to the earth below
and take whichever treat I like"
The moment the baker turned around
To shoo the fox off from his cart
The crow swooped down and snatched
a shortbread cookie and German chocolate tart
Using most unfriendly words that the village children had not yet heard
The baker shouted threats by [?] to curse the crafty bird
"You rotten wooden mixing spoon! Why, you midnight winged raccoon! You'd better bring those pastries back, you no good, burnt, black macaroon!"
The fox approached the tree where the bird was perched delighted in his nest
"Brother Crow, don't you remember me? It's your old friend fox with a humble request! If you could share just a modest piece seeing as I distracted that awful man..."
This failed to persuade Crow in the least, so the fox rethought his plan
"If your lovely song could grace my ears or to even hear you speak would ease my pains and fears!" The crow looked down with the candy in his beak
"Your pearls of wisdom, my good crow, what a paradise they bring!"
This flattery pleased the proud bird, so he opened his mouth and began to sing:
"Your subtle acclamations true, best to give praise where praise is due!
Every rook and jay in the [?] been ravin' about me, too!
They admire me one and all
Must be the passion in my call
My slender bill known through the [?]
My fierce, commanding caw!"
Oh, I got a walnut brownie rain
and molasses in my veins
Crushed graham cracker crust
My powdered sugar funnel cake cocaine
Let the crescent cookie rise
These carob covered almond eyes
Would rest to see my cashew princess in the swirling marble sky
And we'll rest upon the knee where all divisions cease to be
And root beer float in our banana boat across the tapioca sea
When letting all attachments go is the only prayer we know
May it be so
May it be so
May it be so
May it be so...
