Song Lyrics

There are some songs with great lyrics like 'Under the Bridge' by The Chilis and some with appauling lyrics like anything by The Cheeky Girls :shake: or Limp Bizkit :shake: (Behind blue eyes doesnt count because it was written by The Who  )

Just write something about what lyrics you like/don't like.
Personally I like AFI's lyrics for The Leaving Song:

Walked away, heard them say
"Poison hearts will never change, walk away again"
Turned away in disgrace
Felt the chill upon my face cooling from within

(moved to ... here!)

Hmm, I personally don't know of any off the top of my head. I listen to off the wall, stuff though.

About the only things that I listen to are J-pop and hymnody/classical music, so I'm in the same boat, Gypsy.

Does metal count? That's my favorite music genre.

I like lyrics that complement the instrumentals, such as in Stratovarius, Soilwork, and Manmade God.

The lyrics don't even have to make sense, although it helps.

Kool, yeah metal counts.

I've not heard of those bands before, I'll keep a lookout for them!

My favorite band is Waterdeep (not to be confused with Watermark... Way different) Whenever I listen to them, I always find at least 1 song that is exactly what I needed to hear. Today's was this:

Verse 1:
In a crazy haze
In a purple robe
I walk amazed
King of the strobe

Flashing and unfaithful
I'm hardly light at all
Tripping and ungraceful
I was born into the fall

Chorus:
You knew
You knew
I've never been true
I'm true in You
You knew

Verse2:
At the stretch of dawn
In the yawn of time
You thought upon me
With Your bread and wine

But how my blood is hardened
I fear of losing life
Do drown me in Your heart and
Say I'll be Your wife

Chorus 2:
You knew
You knew
Before I was true
I was true in You
You knew

I listened to that today... It really hit me hard... I started to cry when I listened to it. I know there are other good bands out there besides Waterdeep, but I haven't really been "touched" by other bands in a long time...

Chevelle is one the most mysterious bands out there. The song "Comfortable Liar" is completely confusing:
(lyrics from christianrocklyrics.com)
Calm, is this sea
The salts enters the wounds
My take on you is simple

So heal your fear
To heal your fear

Time spent waiting offshore
The calm before the storm
My take from you is simple

So heal your fear
To heal your fear

You're such a comfortable liar
You're such a comfortable liar
You're such a comfortable liar
You're such a comfortable liar
You're such a comfortable liar
You're so calm

Cause I said "Wrong!"
You comfortable liar
You comfortable liar
Liar!
Then there's Evanescence's "Tourniquet". What exactly does this girl want?
Evanescence
"Tourniquet"

I tried to kill the pain
But only brought more
I lay dying
And I’m pouring crimson regret and betrayal
I’m dying praying bleeding and screaming
Am I too lost to be saved?
Am I too lost?

My God my tourniquet
Return to me salvation
My God my tourniquet
Return to me salvation

Do you remember me?
Lost for so long
Will you be on the other side?
Or will you forget me

I’m dying praying bleeding and screaming
Am I too lost to be saved?
Am I too lost?

My wounds cry for the grave
My soul cries for deliverance
Will I be denied Christ?
Tourniquet
My suicide

The most confusing song I've ever heard would have to be Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit":
Nirvana
Smells Like Teen Spirit

Load up on guns and bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over bored and self assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word

Hello, hello, hello, how low?

(chorus)
With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My Libido
Yay!

I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end

Hello, hello, hello, how low?

(chorus)

And I forget just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it was hard to find
Oh well, whatever, nevermind

(chorus)
A denial...
My brother told me it was Kurt Cobain's way of expressing his stress at having to make great music all the time to meet expectations of his fans. Anyway, those are only a few of the songs I could use.

I just thought of another song by Project 86. This is one of my fave songs. It deals with Jesus' comment about thieves in the temple after he cleared it.
(lyrics from christianrocklyrics.com)
Artist: Project 86
Album: Truthless Heroes
Song: S.M.C.

Big business ain’t easy
I’m sure you’d agree
Especially when the product is eternity-
To stay one step ahead we must achieve
And turn this holy temple
Into a factory
Is there anywhere you can run
To hide from these thieves? -
Cause eternity’s on sale today for a fee

Faith is buying me away
Buying me a way
To convert the masses into little servants
Faith is buying me away
Buying me a way
Buying me into your home (soul)

Our sanctuary of this high-rise
Our steeples our billboards
Our slogans our converts
Oh don’t forget to buy this T-shirt
As you leave
And open up the offering box
And give until it hurts
Show me an open heart and we’ll steal it away
Cause eternity’s on up for sale for a small fee today
You know

This altar is a stage
Our sponsor must be paid
And maybe even make the front page

Hey, weren't Chevelle at Ozzfest last year?

Some awesome lyrics are from...you guessed it!!! 1000 Words!!! They're just so powerful and moving. I love this song so much.

1000 Words

I know that your hiding things
Using gentle words to shelter me
Your words were like a dream
But dreams could never fool me
Not that easily

I acted so distant then
Didn't say goodbye before you left
But I was listening
You fight your battles far from me
Far too easily

"Save your tears cause I'll come back"
I could hear that you whispered as you walked through that door
You steal my soul
To hide the pain, when I turn back the pages
Shouting might have been the answer
What if I cried my eyes out and begged you not to part
But now I'm not afraid to say what's in my heart

Cause a thousand words
Call out through the ages
They'll fly to you
Even though I can't see
I know they are reaching you, suspended on silver wings
Oh a thousand words
A thousand embraces
Will cradle you
Making all of your weary days seem far away
They'll hold you forever

Oh a thousand words (a thousand words)
Have never been spoken (ohh yeah)
They'll fly to you
They'll carry you home, (carry you home) and into my arms
Suspended on silver wings (on silver wings!)
And a thousand words (ohh)
Call out through the ages (call through the ages!)
They'll cradle you (ohh yeah)
Make all of the loneliest your lonely days (lonely days)
They'll hold you forever.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh a thousand words

Here's some good blink 182 (their songs aren't all awful)

I Miss You

Hello there, the angel from my nightmare
The shadow in the background of the morgue,
The unsuspecting victim,
Of darkness in the valley,
We can live like Jack and Sally, if you want,
Where you can always find me

That's just the first verse, but I haven't memorized the second verse or chorus.

Dunno. Might have been. They are on a secular label, so that might have something to do with it.

18 visions

this is 18 visions -love in autumn

I remember when things just weren’t the same.
My life went up in smoke.
The end came crashing down on me.
Just when I found this piece of sympathy.
You turned your back.
Walked away after the eulogy.
Can I touch your lips?
Feel the motion of your kiss?
I remember when I first saw your face.
You took my breath away and left without a trace.
So here I stand empty handed point of view.
I took some time.
The search is up and I found you.
Can I touch your lips.
Feel the motion of your kiss?
Where did you go?
It’s not the distance keeping you from seeing me.
It ain’t the weather changing minds or changing dreams.
It’s not the sight of you when I stepped off the plane.
I think that things will be much better off this way.
And when my seasons change…
I might have to pray for rain.
Now that I’ve found you, you’re not leaving me.
Please stay right by my side.
I’ll give you everything.
There she goes.
There she goes with me.
Another lonely winter I don’t think we’ll see.
Where did you go?
