Last week, Vh1 played a countdown of the 100 Greatest Songs of the 80's. Want to know what was no. 1?
I'll give you a hint. Here are the lyrics:

Yep, "Living On a Prayer" by Bon Jovi. Good choice, VH1

Haha, VH1 sucks.

"Billie Jean" and "Beat It" were both infinitely better.

Dire Straits's Money For Nothin' beats all of those suggestions.

Or practically anything by Guns N' Roses. In fact, half of Def Leppard's stuff is better than that too.

I like Bon Jovi, but Living On a Prayer as the #1 greatest song of the 80's.

Give me a break!


I could list some of Van Halen's songs that are better then living on a prayer.

As much as I dislike MJ, his music did change everything, and pretty much was the 80's. And you can't help but dig "Billie Jean".......

The thing with that 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s show is that people voted for those songs. VH1 didn't make the list themselves. So blame the people that did the voting. XD There were way better songs on that countdown than Livin' On A Prayer.

Actually I would've voted for "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake. I ALWAYS must sing along when that plays.

While it was not in the bands greatest days of album sales, Pink Floyds album A Momentary Lapse of Reason was released in 87. One Slip, Dogs of War, and On The Turning Away were all great songs.

I was raised on country music. O.o;; I didn't recognize the vast majority of those songs, let alone know the words. I didn't start listening to rock until... 1999?

Me: ...What song is this? I have never heard it before.

Yeah...The best music of the eighties was Bob Segur, keeping the rock and role music alive through the dark time of....Disco....

Disco was the 70s. :p

And if you're going to fawn over him and say he's the best, at least show him respect by spelling his name PROPERLY. Bob Seger.

Uh, that was Def Leppard. Who was totally rock. Not pop.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers did the hands-down best driving music ever. Especially "Runnin' Down a Dream". It just makes you wanna put shades on and stick your left elbow out the window. The only song I really didn't like by them was "Don't Come Around Here No More". It sounded oddly new-wave and unlike them.
And of course, They Might Be Giants (whom, considering your fandom, Nate, I'm surprised you haven't mentioned, so out of my own fandom I'll do it for you). Big on the college rock scene then, still going strong today. It's amazing that they can write songs about being sad or lost/unrequited love and not actually make them sound depressing. There's also their "educational" songs, like "James K. Polk" and their downright silly ones, like "Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet Head."

I dont even like secular music to much but i love the song Iris by the goo goo dolls!

If you want 80's, go watch one of the greatest teen movies of all time... "The Breakfast Club." That is the pop soundtrack of the 80's.
