For the record, their name is correctly "dc Talk".

Enough already, guys :P. Anyway, I like 'em. The album Jesus Freaks is awesome. I'm just not fond of the fact that a bunch of other Christian artists are doing covers of it. Disgusts me.

Mmm... isn't that the latest fad though? Pretty soon we'll be down to about 2 original artists, and the rest all doing their own version of those artists' songs. Why do all the hard work when someone else will do it for you?
Best example? The worship music fad. 13,000 versions of the same 5 songs. Who in the world though that was a great idea?? Whatever happened to creativity? :shake:

But I digress. I liked dc talk better when they first came out. I was never much for rap, but they made it fun. They got darker and heavier as time went on and I just wasn't so interested anymore. Somewhere my brother still has a tape of their "Nu Thang" album...

And for the record, their first 3 ablums had their whole name in caps. It didn't become dc Talk until Jesus Freaks. Is it really that important anyway??

I like dc Talk. Prior to Jesus Freak they were a really awesome Rap group and afterwards they were a really awesome rock group. In all, I think they're one of the best Christian bands of all time.

Ooh, I love dc Talk (although I'm a big fan of the solo projects they've all done recently, too!). My favorite album was definately Jesus Freak (the only one I actually own...at this time, anyway), but most of their stuff was great. I'm not a huge fan of their earlier stuff (just not my style)....although Vic Mignogna produced their first album so I'm attatched to it anyway. XD *fangirl*

As for the P&W craze, I've heard that the record labels were actually kinda forcing the bands to make albums like that because of how popular they were (which explains why so many of those albums were so FORCED...gah, I'm still ticked off with those labels for doing that, there's no point).

dc Talk was, IMO, one of the best Christian bands ever. It was at least one of the best I've heard.

There were a lot of great Christian bands once. Petra, WhiteHeart... those were the days. Whatever happened? :eyeroll:

And CCM artists started going worship. Don't understand it. Only one who fits the mold is Kutless. They started off as a worship band. It works that way. You don't just change your mind after releasing a bunch of CDs showcasing your own style and decide to do only worship music.

Worship music would be fine, if they didn't all do the same 5 songs. Take Steven Curtis Chapman for example. His songs are incredibly worshipful, but they are HIS songs, from HIS heart. I think that's awesome.
However, it's the everybody and their mother having to have their own version of "Breathe" or "Shout to the Lord" or whatever - that's what really destroyed CCM. Because everyone was just like everyone else - no more creativity, no more originality, no more thought. And even what isn't considered worship music these days tends to be a bit bland in the CCM realm... :shake:

I totally agree with you on Steven Curtis Chapman. He doesn't have to be labeled "worship", 'cause his songs already point in that direction. That's why I think he's so cool.

Don't knock Christian music too much. Sure some songs are too samey (many are actually) are some aren't that great quality-wise, but I still believe that many of them are from the heart (and just aren't all that talented in that area).

Whiteheart was alright, but I much prefer DC Talk. They had a great blend of sad, funny and spiritual songs bridging many musical genres (sort of like P.O.D).

Some of my favorite songs are "What Have We Become?" and "Colored People", to name a few.
