Is Hot Topic really all that gothic? I saw some Naruto stuff in the window, and thought I would just ask other peoples opinion.
Also, how inappropriate is the CD Ten Thousand Fists by Disturbed? It has not explict lyrics sticker, so I thought I'd ask. I love the song Just Stop. It is AWSOME!

Hot Topic is really just a teenager store. Though, it does have a lot of punk and goth stuff, that's not all it is. They have anime stuff there and such.

No, not at all. Of all those CDs they carry, they have at most 15 Gothic and Industrial CDs in store and the clerks know nothing about what Industrial music is, although I was happy to buy Covenant and VNV Nation.

Is this really a music-oriented topic? From what I know, Hot Topic is mostly a clothing and accessory store. Actual music isn't really their thing. Or at least, it's not their main thing. But anyways.
Hot Topic is mostly just an odd store. By that, I mean it sells the stuff you won't find in Belk or Dillards. It sells stuff that most would consider out of the mainstream (I guess), but the stuff sold there pretty much goes straight into the mainstream, since it's being sold there...whatever. XD I'm not a fan of Hot Topic, to state it simply.

Ok... these people no not of what they speak.. ok they kind aDO XD but I almost worked at hot topic so I kinda know the stores "official definition"
it went somehing like this
"a store dedicated to selling merchandise relating to music and the arts plus clothing reminiscent of goth and punk pop culture"
so basically at a hot topic store half of it will be goth/punk clothing... some of it will anime merhcandise and clothing... they have a bunch of fairy stuff alot of animated show stuff... once in awhile they get random sets of merchandise (one summer they had care bears stuff) If you like invader zim thy usually have alot of invader zim stuff! they have quite a few cds but usually heavy metal /undustrial/ punk music..
also alot of the time they have alot of "gay pride merchandise" just so you Know... I just ignore that stuff.
Becuz of some of the stuff they sell the atmosphere can seem overwhelming... (there are usually at least wo pntagrams on the walls (on music t-shirts) and at leat five gay guys work at the one here at my town!
But at the same time I have to say the people who work there are ten times nicer and politer then anywhere else! i love to go in there and hang out with the employees! so yah
theres my big rant about hot topic...
and I know nothing about disturbed!

The CD that you are talking about is good and sorta clean, at least as good as you are gonna get from a hard rock, non-Christian band. The music video for Stricken is kinda weird, it has alot of sensual scenes in it. It was inappropriate and I didnt like it.

I actually like Hot Topic....well, kinda. I could do without the, say, gay pride stuff, but....I find a lot of really cool anime-related stuff there, not to mention some sweet buttons ("Homeschool prom queen--TWO YEARS IN A ROW!").
It's not, like...the best store ever content-wise, but they have some great stuff there, and none of the stuff is *so* bad you'd be blinding your eyes if you just stepped into the store. There's also the website, which ships out quickly and has a pretty good customer service staff. I've never had any problems with the website, ordered from them twice (my local HT doesn't sell much of the plushies and stuff...just t-shirts...^^; )
As for Hot Topic being "goth"...depends on the type of goth you're refering to. If you're refering to the teens with black clothing and makeup who like listening to any music where the singer screams and sterotypically angst a lot, then yes, there some 'goth' stuff there. As for the original subculture, though...no, not really. Influenced by it, but not really 'true' goths.
(That being said, I do like some of the clothing they sell there, it's just..not quite goth, more...*waves vaguely* mallgoth. XD)

I hate Hot Topic with a seething passion and yet I find myself in there buying stuff sometimes.
I found The Tiger and the Duke by Sound of Animals Fighting there on vinyl AND CD. They also have a plethora of cool shorts (but not the ridiculous ones...those are ridiculous).

I went in Hot Topic, so I will no longer be wondering about how gothic it is. I have come to the conclusion that the only way one could go in there without looking weird to the other people in there is by wearing an article of black clothing!
Thanks for the info guys!

Hot Topic is pretty "gothic" but there's nothing wrong with gothic stuff... it's Satanism that's wrong. A lot of goths are Satanists, but Hot Topic isn't... does that make sense? Anyway, I like that store, it's fun.

I think it's kinda a sterotype that a lot of goths are satanists...^^;;; I know several people who are/were "goth" that are Christian, and others who would be called "goth" but aren't at all.

Actually, as much as I loathe Hot Topic, the people who work there are really nice. You'd think the ones who work here were like ex-cheerleaders who got smacked upside the head one day and decided to go nuts at a tattoo/piercing parlor.

i love hot topic... though some of their stuff is exspenisive its one of my favorite stores! ^_^ i always go to the jewelry section cuz i like getting their beads, and i like their pins and stuff! ^_^ and the employees are really really nice! i went in their once and i was the only one in their besides the two guys working in their and the one was like "hey! how are you! its such a nice day isnt it! can i help you with anything?" and i was like "no im just looking around" and he was like "well just call me if you need anything" and then when i left both of them smiled and said "have a nice day!" like whenever i go into like those preppy stores like hollister they all turn their noses up at me and like wont talk to me... i hate hollister UGH! but yeah hot topic has its negatives but i really like the store. ^_^ i dont have a problem with like... feeling out of place... i dont need to be wearing black to go in there.... but i guess it depends on where you live to! so yeah.
