Straight from Wind-Up Records:

EVANESCENCE STEPS THROUGH "THE OPEN DOOR"
Band's New Studio Album To Debut October 3

Los Angeles (April 26, 2006) -- Following the multi-platinum, worldwide success of their major-label debut, Fallen, Evanescence is poised to build upon their respected position in the rock community with their sophomore effort, The Open Door, from Wind-up Records in stores October 3, 2006.

With what some call a meteoric rise to the top, Fallen brought the Little Rock, Arkansas band to global success with 14 million records in the hands of fans worldwide, two Top 10 singles, "My Immortal" and "Bring Me To Life," two Grammy® Awards in 2003 (Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance for "Bring Me To Life"). Fallen spent over one hundred weeks on Billboard Magazine's Top 200 chart, was certified gold or platinum in over 35 countries Worldwide, and supported sold-out arenas globally.

The Open Door was recorded in Los Angeles at The Record Plant in early 2006 and mixed at the venerable Ocean Way Studios in March 2006. It includes the return of long-time friend and producer Dave Fortman (Mudvayne, Bif Naked). The new album is an ideal showcase for the band's inevitable personal and professional growth, with songs of introspection, longing, doubt, self-respect and ultimately, empowerment and anticipation. Several songs include a choir, as well as strings recorded in an old chapel. The album is defined by Amy Lee's beautiful melodies, profound lyrics, stunning vocals and poignant piano, which fuse with Terry Balsamo's urgent, yet intricate guitar playing, to form a remarkable, ethereal blend perfectly rooted in the band's rock and classical sensibilities.

"The making of this record has been really intense, but I've come out feeling purified," shared Lee. "I've grown so much since 'Fallen,' and Terry is the perfect writing partner -- I feel like I've been lifted up to a whole new level of inspiration and possibilities. After all the things we've seen over the past couple of years, beautiful and tragic, in the end I'm really grateful. It has made us create music I could not be more in love with."

What the press release doesn't mention is the name of the first single, "Call Me When You're Sober".

I can't wait.

Interesting... I just hopped on their site a couple days back, wondering if they would be coming out with a new release sometime. (Normally I never visit their site.) There was no news about a new release so I left. Then I saw this thread! Cool stuff - I *really* like their style. Smooth, haunting, grim, grinding... Fallen's lyrics were a little confused and dark, but I guess we'll see what those of The Open Door are like.

Niccce. I hope they end up using the track Amy did for the Narnia soundtrack as like a hidden song at the end or somthing. But yes, I have been waiting for this album for a while. And I think as far as guitar skills, Terry towers over Ben Moody.

I believe Amy said the Narnia track would indeed be on the new album. I THINK she even said the name of it but I forgot what it was called.

She said that she wants it to be, but it's unknown whether it made the final cut at this point.

They really should have Rocky doing guitars and get someone else to do drums; he is a much better guitarist than a drummer. He has played guitar in five bands before he joined Evanescence: Soul Embraced, Living Sacrifice, Mourningside, Thy Pain, and Shredded Corpse. He is currently involved in a solo project called The Burning. Fortunately, he has had a lot more influence on the songwriting this time, so I might actually like it. I don't like Fallen. I especially don't like their cover of Soul Embraced's song My Tourniquet; Soul Embraced's version is much better.

On a side note, Lance Garvin, the drummer of Living Sacrifice and Soul Embraced, is currently recording music with former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody.

Probably the reason you didn't like Fallen is because Amy and Ben were the only people actually working on the album. Ben did all the guitars and string arrangements, Amy did piano and vox, Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle and Devo) did drums and I forget who did bass.

Oh, and I hate Soul Embraced's version of My Tourniquet. No offense to the vocalist (I forget who it was), but he sounded like he was being tortured in that song. That kinda thing is just noise to me.

Terry Balsamo is a better guitarist then Rocky. While some might like Rockys style, Terrys style sells records. And that is why they are where they are in the band. (My opinion anyway)

Eric, for once, I think I agree with just about every single thing you've said here. ;) I've been saying that Evanescence needs to take Rocky off of drums and put him on guitars since Fallen came out. Just ask Ark.
