OK, everyone. Tis the season for singing 'round the yulelog, so here's a little game. I'll post all or part of a Christmas Carol and see if y'all can correctly identify it.

Feel free to post your own carols for the amusment of the rest of us as well.

Here's my first offering. In honor of Ashley, I'll post it in Latin.

Veni, veni Emmanuel!
Captivum solve Israel!
Qui gemit in exilio,
Privatus Dei Filio,
Gaude, gaude, Emmanuel
Nascetur pro te, Israel.
Veni, veni o oriens!
Solare nos adveniens,
Noctis depelle nebulas,
Dirasque noctis tenebras.
Gaude, gaude Emmanuel
Nascetur pro te, Israel.

Veni, veni Adonai!
Qui populo in Sinai
Legem dedisti vertice,
In Maiestate gloriae.
Gaude, gaude Emmanuel
Nascetur pro te Israel.

So. Name that carol!

Good idea; this should be fun. ^_^ Here's my favorite verse of one...

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth He sleep!
"The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
"With peace on earth, good will to men."

I love both of those! Here's the first verse of another, also in its original language.

Stille Nacht! Heil'ge Nacht!
Alles schläft; einsam wacht
Nur das traute heilige Paar.
Holder Knab' im lockigten Haar,
Schlafe in himmlischer Ruh!
Schlafe in himmlischer Ruh!

Silent Night.

Here's a different Christmas "Carol"
"The only thing that holds a marriage together is the husband being big enough to step back and see where the wife is wrong"

"Man was put on this earth to eat meat...The Bible says so dumbbell...I mean look it up will ya? All them old bible peoples, they was always eating meet; soon as they found out eating apples was wrong...It's true, on special occasions: goats and lambs. Who the <snipped> ever hear of sacrificing a head of lettuce? You?"

Entertainment is a thing of the past, today we've got television.
I got a lotta best friends. Some o' them I don't even hardly know!
I got nothin' against mankind. It's people I can't stand.

It's a Christmas Carol O'Connor ;) :P

Funny, bad, and sastisfying.

Here's an interior verse of a favorite of mine:

Christ, by highest heav'n adored:
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of the favored one.
Veil'd in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail, th' incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!

*finishes the verse* Hark, the herald angels sing: "Glory to the newborn King!" ^_^

Subsequent verse of another one:

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strain prolong?

What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire thy heavenly song?

Gloria.

Good one, MelMak.

My next offering:

"Fear not," then said the angel,
"Let nothing you affright,
This day is born a Savior,
Of virtue, power, and might;
So frequently to vanquish all
The friends of Satan quite";

Okay, here's a double shot:
(For obvious reasons, I've deleted all mentions of the titles)

1.There's a star in the East on Christmas morn
It will lead to the place where the Savior's born

2. For Christ is born of Mary and gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wandering love
O morning stars together
Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the King
And peace to men on Earth.

1) "Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow" (aka "There's a Star in the East" I believe)

2) "Hark the Herald Angels Sing"

Sorry, I don't have any of my own.

wrong. 2 is "O Little Town of Bethlehem". 2nd verse, to be specific.

...you're right. I guess I got confused by the ending of that song, which does include that line.
