CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

Anyone else out there a fan of Ireland and its music? I like Celtic music but even more specifically i like Irish folk music. My favorite Irish singer is Brendan Nolan and I'm currently listening to his first album Tempus Fugitive. He plays both traditional and makes up his own. So here are some of my favorites that he plays:

There was also an old Irish group a long time ago called the Irish Rovers. They were my first introduction to Irish music as my dad and aunt sang them to me when i was little. I don't like them as much but i do like:

The Wind that Shakes the Corn
Pat of Mullingar
there are probably a few others but i cannot remember a lot of their songs very well right now

But my favorite Irish song is sung by neither of them. It's Spancil Hill (the actual town is spelled Spancilhill). I only have one track of this one on a cd called Celtic Myst which is kind of a cheap cd (don't get me wrong i still like it) and it does not even have half of the verses to Spancil Hill on it!

Ok a few of you may be thinking, "what 17 year old listens to Irish music" but i love it. I was just wondering if there were other Irish music fans out there and if they knew any of the songs or singers i like. It'll be neat if i get a response on this. (if you think i'm really strange about liking it, you would find me even stranger if you know, which now you will, that for my compsosition class i have to submit something for publication and i'm writing a poem about this )

Yes! I love Irish/Celtic music! And I'm 15 and listen to Irish music. I don't care. Ever hear any of the Irish drinking songs? lol

YES another fan! and yes i have heard a few of them, and they do tend to be amusing (what else can you expect when people are probably a little looser with their tounges?)

I've been listening to Irish/Celtic music since I was born! I'm part Irish so I have a great taste in it

It's so soothing, exciting, energetic, and the like. I listen to any kind of Irish/Celtic music because it takes me to a level in which I can meditate or dance with it or just listen to it and smile.

My favorite tune has to be "Greensleeves".

While answering this, I actually have some celtic music on ("Dulaman" performed by Altan). I am definitely a fan of traditional celtic music of all sorts. I have a special soft spot for songs that are sung in the original Gaelic, which is quite an enchanting language to listen to.

My favorite celtic group is Altan, though Orion, The Poozies, and Maighread Ni Dhomhnaill are some others I have enjoyed.

I do like some Celtic stuff. Its fairly soothing music.

It can be. The unnerving thing is how it sounds when people sing in Gaelic... it sounds off balance to my ears, yet almost sounds like it should be understandable

If a song has even the slightest Celtic influence I am so there, it's one of my fave genres, ranking about equal with Rock. Oo, let alone Celtic Rock

My violin teacher came from a family of fiddlers, which meant that I got to try my hand at a number of traditional celtic tunes in addition to all the mandatory classical music. It can be so fast though, I usually have a hard time keeping my fingers and brain even remotely coordinated. Which is why I like ballads, they don't hurt my head. I seriously respect Natalie Macmaster and Ashley MacIssac (even if he's frequently beligerent) for their break-neck fiddling skills.

Are there any celtic punk fans out there? I really like the Pogues and Flogging Molly. And I adore Great Big Sea, though I think that they don't entirely qualify as Celtic (or even remotely punk). GBS is more Canadian-East-Coast-kitchen-party-band-gone-mainstream-rock, but they do really catchy drinking songs. Like 'The Old Black Rum' or 'Jakey's Gin', which has this awesome breakdown at the midpoint. And 'Lukey' is pretty much my favorite GBS song, the video is awesome.

Flogging Molly is ok. I will be honost though, I am really not a big punk fan regardless of its origin. >.<''

The Pogues do some stuff well. Flogging Molly is OK. Someone told me they did Christian music, but I have to say I really don;t see it...

Eh, I'd say that Flogging Molly is somewhat against organized religion from what I've heard in their lyrics. They sound pretty jaded at times and I think that the lead singer may have had a bad experience with the Catholic Church.

And the Pogues were significantly better back in the day, I remember finding their album 'Mahone' at the library and ending up with the impression that they were extremely overrated. But then I found their version of 'Waxie's Dargle' (it's an undecipherable hoot) on the net and I finally went about tracking down some of their earlier albums.

I like Celtic music. Especially when it has bagpipes.

Be Thou My Vision and Amazing Grace are two of my favorite songs ever.

As far as punk/rock goes, I'd have to say that Dropkick Murphys are better than Flogging Molly.
