Just wondering...

Okay, question...
Do you ever listen to music(namely j-pop) that you don't understand, but it doesn't diminish the enjoyment factor? It strikes me as odd, because a lot of people I now won't listen to certain music because the lyrics have no depth, and yet music in a foreign language is enjoyable. At least for me.
Also, does anyone watch shows in subs or original language?
Any thoughts as to why it doesn't really matter? Or why it does? Just wondering.

I listen to music in other languages all the time(mostly Japanese).
When I watch something that was originally made in another language, I prefer subtitles.

I enjoy Japanese techno (primarily Two-Mix from Gundam Wing, but a few others). The lack of lyrics is a bit of a drawback, but its nothing big. I can find translations if I'm wanting to know really badly, but otherwise, no. No problemo.
I usually watch dubs, but often I switch to the Japanese track to hear the original voices for certain actors or if I've seen the episode far too many times.
As to why it doesn't matter, I could only offer that - in the case of the songs I like - the tune is so outrageously infective and toe-tapping that one doesn't mind the lack of words.

I tend to watch shows in subs rather then original language for the main fact I don't know japanese.
J-pop... err... I'm not into that. Some of the beats may be cool, but if I can't understand the words, then what's the point in listening? For me at least...

i love the song kanashimi wo yasashisa ni (3rd naruto opener).... the lyrics are awesome... but what I love most about it is the violin in the background
*loves the sound of piano and violin*
yes i frequently listen to j-rock/j-pop. Mostly ones from anime though... I also listen to techno/dance/euro stuff and worship songs (Hillsong United, Terry Kelly Band, Michael W. Smith, etc)
some odd reason... i perfer it over most western rock and such... it's weird... maybe asian tongue... sounds cooler? Maybe because I'm asian? who knows

Moved to the music board. I happen to love bands from other countrys. Some of the first to come to mind...
Rammstein (there lyrics are not as bad as everyone makes them out to be...look them up somtime...there far less vulgar then most American Pop for petes sake...)
Tatu (no there not lesbians, but thats a whole nother subject)
Ill Nino (South American rockers, that need to do more songs in Spanish IMO)
I prefer bands singing in there native tounge over trying to sing English. It sounds forced. Then again, I also love hearing other languages...so...

Haha, I love listening to Jpop! It's some of the most catchy, fun music since Billy Joel. XD And I do watch subs sometimes, but its mostly for unlisenced shows. I like to watch a lot of dubbed versions, especially the ones that are good (Cowboy Bebop and FMA are good examples...), but I do watch subs every now and then.

I love music from Cirque du Soleil, and most of that isn't even in a real language. I also like J-pop and J-rock. More than the meaning of the words, I like the way the voices sound. Personally, I think you don't have to understand the lyrics of a song to like it.

Oh, that kind of music is great. There's another song like that that's on teh radio sometimes, but they never tell teh name.
Yeah, J-pop IS quite upbeat. The tune enough will keep you listening, I guess.

i listen to j-pop & j-rock and enjoy it just as much when i don't understand what there saying. How music sounds & feels is usually my biggest decider on whether i like something or not.

And hey, Romanian music is cool, too: Dragonstea Din Tei, anyone? (Numa Numa for the uninitiated.)

There's plenty of instrumental music that is at least as enjoyable as music with vocals, so lyrics themselves obviously aren't necessary for good music. I find that I sometimes enjoy Japanese music more if I don't know what is being sung--if I find out that a song has banal lyrics, it tends to diminish my enjoyment of it.
Part of the reason I like listening to music in foreign languages is because it is less distracting than music with English words, but it's also just fun to listen to other languages.
