i don't know exactly whether or not they do have connections to the new age religion, but i do know that new age music tends to be very emotion driven, and in such a way that it tries very hard to get the listener to be immersed in those emotions, i really only know of 2 new age musicians those being enya and yanni, if you're looking for a musician that's comparable, i'd recommend john tesh and moya (aka maire) brennan, they are similar in style to enya and yanni, but the lyrics are decidedly more uplifting and edifying

I want to know, because I want NOTHING to do with the cult.

well, i don't blame u there, the alternatives i suggested are christian recording artists, the only thing i can tell u is that if the Holy Spirit makes u feel uncomfortable when u listen to it, then turn it off, whether it's cultic or not, there's something about it that God doesn't want u to be a part of

I was wondering, because I saw some posters and they were awesome looking, but they were New Age.

as i said before, when it comes to things that you yourself are unsure of, allow the Holy Spirit to show you what is good for you to have and what is going to be detrimental to you

Yeah it all depends on what the Holy Spirit tells you, if it's screaming rock bands the chanses of it being Satanic are probably wider than soft meditations. Listen to the lyrics and find out more about the band. That would probably help a lot.

If it's instrumental music...I don't really see that much of a problem with it because they are just instruments playing in the background and they could come from a variety of different cultures. If it has words though...then you have to see if they are promoting New Age thinking or ideologies.
New Age art, though can have many hidden meanings behind the painting, itself, so it's probably better to stay away from those kind of things.
Still, it all comes down to what the Holy Spirit tells you. If the Holy Spirit is telling you to stay away from anything remotely New Age, then do what the Holy spirit says.
Just my two cents.

New Age music seems more designed to engender a mood than to fend for an ideology, at worse you get something that is like The Future Sound of London's brief intro to "It's My Mind That Works" from ISDN;
You know the way everybody's with the weirdness right now
You know the way everybody's with the weirdness right now
You know the way everybody's with the weirdness right now
It's all part of cosmic and consciousness
And if that makes you convert to being new age, you had a pretty weak faith to begin with. ^_^ Myself, I'm pretty fond of Kitaro's stuff.

Anything Americans don't know how to categorize they label as "new age."So just because something is labaled that way doesn't mean the person wanted to be New Age.

In general, I don't think "new age" music has anything to do with New Age philosophy, just like rock music in general has nothing to do with Satanism. It's just music. I happen to love Enya's music, personally. But, as others have mentioned, if the Holy Spirit tells you no, then stay away.
A big problem definately. OFFICIALLY New Age music can be anything from chants with a flute in the background, or country music, or techno, or celtic rhythm.
But New Age music is MARKETED with the image that all new age music is "Peaceful, serenic, and calming to the mind and body" I've heard many different New Age songs, some feature the voices and dances of Native Americans, others are African beats, others are just nature sounds mixed with flute background. Yani is also new age.
You can tell new age music apart...well actually sometimes you can't. While there are a lot of specific instruments new age artists use (acoustic piano, flute and specific combinations of others to give their song a "new age" feel) New Age music can be anything.
What is New Age?
New Age is NOT a specific type of music, it's a Philosophy, an uncategorized amount of beleifs that range from Wiccan to shamanism, neopaganism, or even Semi-Christian.
People who are new age do not have a Bible, or Universal beleifs. instead their philosophies are made up of bits and chunks from any religion they choose.
Just to let you know. If New Age and Christianity were Gears in a clock, they would NEVER match up.
Re-incarnation, Karma, chi, yoga meditation, spirit-beings, aliens, being one with earth, are all pretty standard in New Age bleleif.
Is Enya New Age or Celtic?
Enya is most definately new age. While most of her works are very celtic in nature, if you're familiar with Pure Moods' "Sail Away and "Caribean Blue" you'll notice Enya's definately New Age.
Her first (and most) songs were at their core "New Age" and sounded nothing "celtic". Her recant work is more Celtic, probably because enya herself is from Irland and would like to show support towards her country. From all the Songs by her I've heard in the past, none sounded anything "Celtic-like".
Weather she is or isn't religously new age, I don't know. But she certainly is not ashamed to show her support towards the New Age image and philosophy with her lyrics and Instruments.
Do not forget that Enya doesn't always come up with her lyrics, Enya use to be 3 people, Enya herself for the voice, a freind did her lyrics, and another her producer. Many times a person's musical image is completely different than their real image.
EDIT:
Is Enya New Age Now?
Enya might of moved away from the new age image and song structure. Weather she is a New Age Singer today. I don't know. She might of gotten out of that category, and she might have never beleived in New Age in the first place. A singer of songs has nothing to do with the ideas/beat/melody/lyrics.
Britney Spears is an excelent example of the way one's producer and Song writter might control the image of a Singer. Britney doesn't write her songs, she's only paid to play the part, sing, dance, act sexually provocative and at the end of the day. She gets her paycheck, puts on her $3,000 Guci slippers and drives away in a BMW stretch limo.
So enya might have gone along with the New Age Image because, hey, Everyone wants to earn a living.
My Stance on New Age Music
Enya is the least of my worries. I'd be cautious, but Enya doesn't look the type for being hard-core New Age Philosopher.
If I'm in K-mart and New Age music plays over the intercom, I can sense it. It bothers me both spiritually and physically. Both Enya and everything else. Sometimes I've had nightmare and negative reactions when just listening to a few clips of New Age music. So i stay from it. I don't like it and I avoid being exposed to it. Nothing personal, I just go with my inner fealing.
There's nothing like total misinformation about things like this. None of that entire post has a true fact.
