Why is there no good new bands?

For all the music-lovers out there, this is your place to swap lyrics, talk about new bands and jazz about concerts. All things related to the audio world belong here.

Why is there no good new bands?

Postby PumpkinKoRn52 » Mon Sep 26, 2005 7:49 am

Yes, I have finally decided to return. Now you can all once again hear my rants. For starters, chew on this:

NEW BANDS THAT ROCK = OXYMORON

Ever notice that every band that has come out recently have all sounded the same: Crappy? Crossfade, Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, Taproot, Seether, Dark New Day, and Velvet Revolver to name a few. I hate having to listen to the radio to here these new bands monotonous "rock" with incoherent lyrics babling over the worst guitar riffs, horrible bass lines, and loud drum holocosts that are all jumbled together in one stinking pile of, dare I say, "music." Not only are these new bands terrible on so many levels, they all sound the same. Every new band that comes on sounds just like their other crappy peers.

Not only are the new bands terrible, but some of the old bands that used to really rock are selling out. Mudvayne, Audioslave, Green Day, and System of a Down are just a few of the bands that used to be good that have jumped on the crapfest whining bandwagon of popular music. Remember when Mudvayne released L.D. 50? That cd ruled. Dig is just non-stop awesome. There follow-up cd, The End Of All Things To Come was awesome too. So when Mudvayne released their new cd, I was expecting it to reek of awesomeness. Instead, I was bombarded by their whiny new lyrincs that buy into today's market. Happy?, their latest single, sucks all around. Mudvayne lost thier souls. And System of a Down to. Toxicity and Steal this Album were both excellent cds. So to follow those up, they release Mesmerize, with the hit track B.Y.O.B., which is just jumping on the anti-Bush, anti-war bandwagon that propelled them to the top of the charts. Audioslave, another newly turned corporate sell-out. Their first cd was pretty good, mixing in Rage's solo's and guitar work with Cornell's soundgardenesque lyrics. Not a bad combo. New CD, new corporate dog crap feel. And last but not least, GREEN DAY, the biggest sell-out of them all. It seems that Green Day completely forgot their roots and swallowed the crap their label feeds them whole. American idiot was just jumping on the bandwagon in the biggest way possible, with songs blatantly devoid of any thought or rationality. Green Day, WHY?

What ever happened to originality? What ever happened to creativity? Did all this die overnight? New bands ask politely if they could try to somewhat rock you out, and if you say no, they apologize and give you a hug. What happened to the old bands that just kicked you in the teeth with thier awesome music, and just rocked you out even if you hated it? Bands like Metallica, ACDC, KoRn, Tool, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, & Pantera??? Granted, KoRn is releasing a new album, disturbed just did, and tool is later this year, but why can't these new bands take a page from the legends of the past.

Let me hear what you think.
"Relax, turn around, and take my hand." Tool
"Heir Kommt Die Sonne." Rammestein
"Now the world is gone, I'm just one. Oh please God help me." Metallica
"Are You Ready?!?" KoRn
"All and all your just another brick in the wall." Pink Floyd.
The downfall of society will be society itself.
Rap is the malignant tumor of the music industry.

Showbread, The Chariot, As Cities Burn, He Is Legend, Becoming the Archetype, though I doubt you like that kind of music.

Also, the new Coheed and Cambria album is stupendously splendid, and I remember you saying you liked them so...check it out.

Opeth released a new album which I heard is extremely well done.

But I agree with todays mainstream music just drowing in mundane, mediocre crap. They are out to please the masses and please they shall cause I guess some people enjoy repetative, mediocre music that everyone and thier brother tries to play.

That's why...one of these days....I'm going for form a JapoxXxCore/Amish-Folk/New Age Polka Metal band.

 Does anyone else find it disturbing that every pop band in America sounds EXACTLY the same????? No? Just me? Rock bands are like that too.

There's this one rock band and they sound okay, but every song is virtually the same. Maybe add another bridge or two, but otherwise it's like everyone's a clone.

Look at songs like Pon De Replay and 1 2 step. Words are the same, music is the same, different artists!!! Do they think we're that stupid? That we won't notice?

So, yes I feel your pain.

Cheer up. Sevendust has a new album coming out soon and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are working on one right now, (and rumor has it that Incubus is getting ready to go in studio.) Try some Alter Bridge in the meanwhile.

I really like Shinedown and Dark New Day and honestly, they sound nothing alike. Are there similarities yes, but they're from the same -freaking!- genre, so what?

Which brings up a good point; when's Linkin Park ever going to do anything? I want more dangit!

I have my issues with some of the modern music, especially like you were talking about, how Green Day and Mudvayne used to be good. And I also agree with some of the other things you said, like about Shinedown and the like are the new mainstream even though they suck.

Not all new bands suck, though. The Bravery is an amazing band, definitely worth checking out, and as far as I know, they're a new band. Out of the newer bands, though, I can't say that there are all that many that are impressive. You have to rely on older bands to come out with new stuff. That's what I've been doing.

*laughs* I am sorry man. But I stoped taking your opinion serious when you complained about new Mudvayne yet praised there first CD. Are you mad they actaully play there intstruments now? And not assault them with violence and face paint? I think your mistaking talent with personal taste. While I may not like them, the Dave Matthews band are one of the most talented in years...yet I bet you hate them.

Actually play there instruments now??? They do less of that now than they ever did. L.D. 50 was insane musically. The bass lines were crazy, and the druming was spot on with the bass line.. Now, they've become mediocre and mundane in their rythm section, which was once phenomenal, and replaced what used to be awesome guitar riffs with new-age guitar chants that sound like every other corparate riff out there today. By the way, Mudvayne took off their face paint when they released The End of All Things To Come, which, as I stated, was also a good cd. I don't give a crap about their face paint either. When their new cd came out, I really tried to like it. I really did. I just couldn't because they competely lost their roots.

And about Dave Matthews: I HATE Dave Matthews. Yet, he is a phenomenal guitarist, along with the rest of the band. The bass player is awesome, so is the guy who plays violin, along with the winds section, and of course, the insane drumming. They are an amazing group of musicians. They just aren't my cup of tea.

That's good about sevendust and RHCP, but I can't stand incubus. Alter Bridge was suprisingly good too. I really was suprised I liked them.

Shinedown and Dark new day both flow on the same vibe: A slow whiny build-up, followed by a crappy scream-off, followed by a crappy chourus.

And Linkin Park is a scourge to rock. Need I remind you of their duet cd with Jay-Z???

You're still on that Linkin Park thing? Did they kill your dog or something? Key your car? Spit in your Coca Cola? Take a big bite out of your McDonald's double cheeseburger and then tell you have they have twelve communicable diseases? Gun your family down, causing you to become a dark knight of justice to rid Gotham City of evil? :brow:

Linkin Park writes catchy rock/rap songs. I STILL don't see your problem. Doing a duet album with Jay-Z doesn't say anything bad about them. At least Jay-Z is a better rapper than, say, 50 Cent.

Glad to have you back, PK. You're a funny guy. God bless you.

The problem is you are looking for originality in the mainstream. The major labels and promters want the highest possible sales, so they seek out performers that sound like that which has already sold millions. Stick with the underground, dig through soundclick, purevolume, myspace, godcore, ect, pick up zines, search indy websites and record labels and read about the bands that are out there.

I think a lot of them sound the same. A few songs and bands stand out, but it seems that EVERYONE is a singer/musician/song writer these days. I like older stuff more these days, like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Journey.

It's true that A Crow Left of the Murder was a little . . . . . . awful . . . . but I'm hoping they might go back to their 'S.C.I.E.N.C.E.' sound. Dang, that's a great album.

I like Shinedown becuase they can sing and they can rock, even on just acoustics. I will admit they are a little bit poppy, but I still enjoy them. Dark New Day is really cool. I mean, who sings 5-part chorus's? They've also got Clint Lowery who was one of the major creative forces behind Sevendust. It's fine if you don't agree with me, I won't hate you for it.

Linkin Park isn't responsible for the Jay-Z project, that was all Mike Shinoda's fault. It was a terrible idea, but the full band still sounds really good.

Its not like Korn were the fathers of a modern genre. No, they did nothing for rock music. *eyeroll* I really need to stop posting on these threads. It's kinda fun reading through threads like this. Everyone gets so worked up over such inconsiquential things. Anyway I think that everyone should exclusively listen to gregorian chants...It'd solve a lot of problems.

well IMO whatever spawned from korn is ugly. It always was. I'm not saying down with all that... whatever you call it. I'm just saying I want to go to some kick butt concerts eventually :P and buying 60's albums remedies the situation mildly but it wont bring any cool concerts around here.
