Jars of Clay

Awsome albumof Hymns, which I love by the way. Most modern versions of Hymns loose their flavor and feel ad sound liek any pop song. Jars of Clay uses a simpler more traditional sound. Over all it's more folksy.

"I'll Fly Away features the voice of Sarah Kelly and "Nothing But the Blood features the Blind Boys of Alabama and "Let us Love and Sing and Wonder" features Martin Smith of Delirous.

Lyrics from the first song:

GOD BE MERCIFUL TO ME (Psalm 51)
traditional words from the Psalter 1912/
music by Christopher Miner

God be merciful to me on Thy grace, I rest my plea
Plenteous in compassion Thou
Blot out my transgressions now

Wash me, make me pure within
Cleanse, oh, cleanse me from my sin

My transgressions I confess
Grief and guilt my soul oppress
I have sinned against Thy grace
And provoked Thee to Thy face

I confess Thy judgment just
Speechless, I, Thy mercy trust

I am evil born in sin
Thou desirest truth within
Thou alone my Savior art
Teach Thy wisdom to my heart

Make me pure, Thy grace bestow
Wash me whiter than the snow

Gracious God, my heart renew
Make my spirit right and true
Thy salvation's joy impart
Steadfast make my willing heart
Steadfast make my willing heart

Broken, humbled to the dust
By Thy wrath and judgment just
Let my contrite heart rejoice
And in gladness hear Thy voice

From my sins, oh, hide Thy face
Blot them out in boundless grace

I'd loved these guys ever since Flood came out.

My mom just got the CD last night...I haven't listened to it yet though.

I love Jars of Clay...I grew up listening to them, but I didn't became a big fan until I saw them in concert. My church got them to come and perform in our auditorum (my church used to be a high school)

I'm not a fan of hymns. Jars of Clay are one of my favourite bands but I like their earlier stuff like their self titled album, Much Afraid and If I Left the Zoo. I like some of the songs from the latest cds but the others are unfortunately quite forgettable.

I'm not a huge fan of hymns either, except once in a while in church, but I thought Jars did a good job on this album. I listen to it when I'm in the mood for something mellower and spiritually uplifting.

It's really only worth repeated listenings for "God will lift up your head", I think. The other songs are good, but nothing to kick your dog over.
I agree with W4J... the first album is still the best.
