P.O.D. : Which side of the Fence?

For those of you who have never heard of this band they claim they`re Christian and the genre is:

Hip-Hop/Metal/Minor Reggae

They are truly my favorite band who went Plantinum for their CDs Southtown and Satellite. They`re lyrics are clearly uplifting but one thing troubles me.

I saw them appear in alot of secular and Christian magazines. They have made 5 CDs and I like the first 4. The 5th has one good song which has appeared on MTV numerous times and the images in the booklet for their latest Selftitled includes a deattatched arm that reads: 'God is Dead' in Spanish and they have a butterfly resembeling a woman which appears topless but has her arms crossed covering whtaever there was to show and an eye in the middle a palm of a hand which I think has some relation with "Palm-readings" which is a Demonic-Act, and a random human organ with a plant growing out of it. I stared at this booklet and thought to myself: "Is this a Christian Band?" I mean I`ve liked these guys since Southtown in 1996 and they`re lyrics are really pleasing to God even in the new self-titled album. Ever since they`re leading guitarists Marco left the group the band has gone on a downfall and now I really dislike their new style.

I really miss the hip-hop they put into their albums that mixed with the heavy sounds but I there is no Hip-Hop in their latest album.

I recommend Satellite and Southtown only. They`re titles 'Brown and their original '92 album "Snuff The Punk" is okay, but I don`t recommend. Just don`t buy "Payable on Death" It`s the groups downfall.

Let me know what you think?

Just a thought:

I gather that a lot of artists, especially with the larger labels, really have very little involvement or say with their album art. The record labels tend to have pools of graphic designers that they use for the covers, inserts, booklets, etc. If you see changes in their style that you dislike, that's one thing, but I'd be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt on the artwork.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

If I gave an honost responce to this I am afraid I would probably offend you. So I will make a short one. Let the band answer to God and stop judging them. If you don't like the direction there taking don't buy there cd's. POD has never claimed to be a ministry so don't treat them like one.

I really don't care where P.O.D. stands with the Lord at the moment, but musically speaking, dude.......Brown and Snuff the Punk are FANTASTIC. You should listen to them again. They're good, if not fan-freaking-tastic. I like Brown and Snuff the Punk WAY more than Satellite, which was disappointing.

And as for Marcos leaving the band, yeah, I agree with that. Shattersteve and I were talking about this like last week and we think that they need to let Jason Truby play Jason Truby style music rather than have Jason Truby trying to play Marcos Curiel music.

I think this would be a good time to quote a POD song in answer to the question.
POD-Anything Right

So much to say so little time for me to explain the way I feel
You only see things the way you want to see them
It makes sense to you all these things you do
You got it all figured out while everyone is confused
How do you do it?
In your mind I'm just blind
You're right all of the time
If I think for myself, I guess I'm way out of line
I'm not who you are
I'm so sorry

Chorus:
I can't do anything right
You don't know me, stay out of my life
Kick me while I'm down, I want you to
I can't be like you
Don't want to be like you

No matter what I do it's never good enough
I give all that is me; still it's never enough
So, why try? I give up.
What does it feel like to be in you shoes
And walk over everyone like you do?
Tear me down again, I want you to.
You're lovely, so beautiful
You're perfect in every way.
Your interior rusted. I'm so disgusted
Can't trust it. You're busted.

P.O.D is my favourite band, but the lastest cd is a bit lacking my opinion. Snuff the Punk and Brown and the best and I don't know if they have much control over the cd art. The lyrics aren't blatantly Christian but I personally don't think they are watered down either. Snuff the Punk was pretty blatantly Christian - Abortion is Murder song anyone? That is telling the truth and as they say the Truth hurts, but that's because we may not want to accept that we are sinning etc.
I still think they are Christians.

ShatterHeart: Seriously, that song has to be the most negative song I`ve ever heard from them. But you`re making it sound like its a common song from them. No, its a very rare kind of song that they play called "Negative." Seriously, I think Kutless is much better of a band, but I like POD`s style more.

And P.O.D. have claimed to be a ministry times before. I heard it in their DvD "Still Payin` Dues" which is basically the story of the guys from P.O.D. 1992 to 2001.

Am I the only one who finds it freaky the release of Satellite was originally supposed to be 'released' on:

9-11-01

And the fact that the record for most people on this site at one time was '9-11."

Please, know what your talking about when you speak. It would really help. The song is not called "Negative" Its called Anything Right, its track #10 on the album Satellite. I know this, not only because I own all of PODs cds...but because this handy dandy internet we post on has sites like this...

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:tr5g8qtpbtx4

The song is not a negative song, but the fact that you see it as such shows there is really no sence in me debating the point with you. I will say this, please do us all a favor and stop listening to POD alltogether. That way, you won't misunderstand songs and get angry. As for numbers. Like, whoa. The number to dial police is 9-11. That must mean that POD, the police, and the members of CAA are in cohoots with the devil.

I love Anything Right! I'm really hard on myself and tend to get mad at myself alot. Hearing a song like that helps me feel better because I know I'm not the only person who feels that way.

As for POD being Christian or not, their music is alot more Christian than some bands that do say their christians. I didn't look that closely at the art on "Payable on Death" because it was my brother's CD, not mine, and I only had time to flip threw the booklet while I was ripping it onto my computer. Yeah, I was kind of weirded out by it, but I just shrugged it off because, like someone said earlier, they probably has little say in it.

Their self-titled album also has some BEAUTIFUL songs on it that I think you could used to argue that they are Christians. But you know what? I don't know them personally, so I can't know for sure if they're really Christians at all or not... but they make good, clean music and that's what matters to me.

((I hope that wasn't too badly written. I'm tired and I'm rushing... got to go off to school soon.))

I was just kidding around when I said the "9-11" thing.

So are you saying making this thread was a bad thing?

And I know the song is called "Anything Right." I menat it is a rare KIND of song called "Negative." I found that song not as "positive" as most POD songs. And as for the POD CDs I own, I own Snuff The Punk, Brown, Southtown, and Satellite. i borrowed the fifth from my firend whose like counting down the seconds for the new POD CD this year.

Let`s see how they do then.

I do think the song is sarcastic in its tone, but I don't think Anything Right is negative. I think its in response to the whole idea that we shouldn't be so superfical and that people need to be able to express their opinion. I personally think its about everyday Christians struggling in their faith against the world. That's my take anyway.

Probably the new crapfest they have been doing. It seems to make them more money. If this new cd is as bad as the last one, I am going to give up on them for good.

It doesn't like like they'd be doing it for money. Seriously, they were more popular with the old style.

I cover my mouth and chuckle with delight at the incredible knack of CAA members to say exactly how they feel and not violate any site laws. Kudos. Much kudos.
