Would you like to take part in a bible study with other CAAers, and if so, when?

I'm thinking of doing an expository study through a book of the bible with a few people from CAA using AOL Instant Messenger. Are you interested, and if so, when is a good day for you. I know that a time isn't in the poll, but feel free to post a time that is good in a reply. Thanks.

Actually, I have had (for a long time) setups ready on the CAA chat zone for a Bible study, including being able to post the transcripts as they happen right to the web, and two online Bible translations for reading. This is all ready to go -- it's just waiting for someone to use it, and I'm happy to help anyone who wants to organize a study.

Sounds cool to me, having a catholic join in wouldn't bother you, right?

Afternoons don't work for me as I have a daily paper route from 3-5 pm central time. PM me for my screenname or I'll just show up somehow.

Yeah, having a Catholic is fine. There are many Catholics on CAA that I personally feel could lead some studies standing on their head. Remember the object of a study is to read beforehand, and then bring your insight with you, letting the Word of God say what it says. Maybe I will use the CAA chat zone to do the study Shoo. I'd have to get comfortable with it first though, I've never actually talked to anyone with it, although I've been in it many times

Let me know, and I'd be happy to facilitate it.

I'll just find out when, and what book we want to study (I was thinking Romans), and decide on a good reading pace. From there I'll assign a week to do the reading, and we'll get started.

Whoever voted for "I can't because I don't have AIM," don't worry about that. After fiddling around with the chat client for a while, I have come to like it a lot. The embedded bible is perfect for a study, and the possibility of transcription means that everyone on CAA can benefit from our study if they cannot make it.

So, long story short, the study will be done on the CAA chat client. Not AIM.

Saint Kevin, I'm going to be around this weekend pretty much in my apartment working on a paper, so I'll stay logged into the chat. When you sign on, I'll show you how the transcript device works, so that you can publish Bible studies to the web, and we'll talk about making sure unwelcome company doesn't gatecrash (although I'm relieved that very little of the troll activity here makes it over there, but I keep a close eye on the user creation logs, just in case). Give me a time you expect to be around.

I'm glad we decided to do this via the chat, as I do not have AOL messenger, nor could I get it easily. This might actually make it possible for me to participate, given the date. I will monitor the thread for further information.

Is there still no direct link to the chat? That is somewhat annoying.

I would be interested in a Bible study, depending on the day and time. Also, how long are you planning to hold the study? As in, what will be the total duration, how many weeks?

Well, as I'm reading this, the weekend is now over. I'm bummed, because I really would have liked to learn how to use the transcription device. Sorry Shoo. I'll be on this afternoon/evening at some point, and if you see me on, PM me to let me know you'll be in the chat client. From there I'll join you and you can show me what you need to show me.

Tentatively, I'm going to say the study will be held on Mondays, from 9:15 PM ET to 10:15 PM ET. The duration will depend on the book. Please note that I have not chosen a book yet, and I am still open to suggestions. The number of weeks will depend on the amount of chapters in the book, but I am shooting for a 5 chapter a week pace. For example, the book of Romans has a nice, round, 16 chapters. I would divide the book into 4 readings of 4 chapters each. Since I would give a week for everyone to read the material for the following Monday, the study would take 5 weeks to do, even though only 4 studies would be conducted. I hope that answers your question Spiritsword.

If anyone has suggestions for different times or a different (relatively short) book of the bible to study, then please, by all means, let me know.

P.S. I was also thinking of studying the book of Daniel.

LOL, I started one of these on AOL with my CAA friends a couple weeks ago. ^^ We meet Wednesdays at 5:00-6:00 but I think we might have to change our time since its summer now. :P But ya... I'm glad to see I'm not the only person doing stuff like this. ^_^ Its great to be able to have christian fellowship online.

Well, weekday evenings works for me but only after 7-8 p.m. since there are random nights, which I come home late from work. The preferable days would be Monday or Wednesdays.

The Book of Daniel, huh? Interesting--my church is currently doing a sermon series about Daniel. It would be neat to have both going on at once and I might be able to contribute some insights from the lessons at my church. And yes, Saint Kevin, you answered my question. Thanks!

I'll keep watching this. Given that this is the summer, I actually should be able to shuffle things around so I can be online at the tentative time you mentioned. At what dates would such begin?
